G'day all, I've amassed quite a few phono stages over the years (quite a few DIY), and they pretty well all sound a little different despite all being designed to do the same job!

At the moment anyway my favourite phono stage on my main system is the Lounge Audio LCR MKIII phono stage, an incredibly musical sounding phono stage with an impressively 'cohesive' sound.

On my system in here in my Ham Radio shack, two or three of my favourite DIY op amp based units get regular rotation.  What are others personal phono stage favourites?  Regards, Felix.

Mike Kontor's Phantom Audio MM & Grado Sonata cartridge were a match made in heaven.

It was simply the most musical combo i've had in my system.

My deck was a VPI HW19 mk4 & Syrinx PU3 arm which the grado tracked beautifully in.

  cheers.

Aah, you have one of Mike's phono stages.  So do  - for the last 10 yearsI!! :)

Yes, very musical - but you may be interested to know I was able to:

a.  make it sound better, and

b.  increase the gain so I can run my Benz LOMC through it - as well as my Grado RR1.

Mike will admit that it sounded much better when I used a regulated PS designed by Hugh 'AKSA' Dean instead of the standard LM regulators which he had used.  (Mind you, he would've had to ask at least twice the price if he had used this PS!)

Regards,

Andy
