Does sex sell or will political correctness take over the world

Recommended Posts

I just noticed on the TV an add for Renault Clio with some sexy chic in a tight fitting red dress. Not sure if anyone has seen it?  The girl is down the bottom of the page.

Did it get my attention?  Yes

Was I offended?  No. However I am sure there are many that will be determined to be

Did it make me want to buy a Renault?  No, however I know Renault makes excellent cars and this has piqued my interest in the Clio.

I now see Renault has plenty of these types of ads around the world -some have been banned, some were played at the Superbowl.  Interestingly the banned ad in the UK has had over 3.5 mill hits in YouTube with one complaint.

I am sure these other ads should be in the adult night timeslot thou as not appropriate for kids.

Thoughts?

Yes, sex sells....

Yes, political correctness will take over the world...

People seem less keen on seeing the funny side of things these days.

Thats because they are afraid of getting sued or lose there jobs, its getting to the point where its impossible to have a good laugh without thinking it will effect someones state of mind.

Funny how in general the poor good looking girls that get paid well to be used as sex objects don't have a problem with it.

It seems to always be the ugly feminists and other minority look at me groups that are determined to be offended.

Polical correctness grows in power every day, I shudder to think what the place will be like in 20 years, or is that just me making budding-old-fart comments?

I cant help but think, like the fear of litigation, which I think holds hands with PC, that there is a straw man being feared here. We have 99.9% of the population talking/worried about how 0.1% of people are going to react.

It stresses me out being a bloke to NOT stray from eye contact when you go out to clients and there is cleavage or full breasts hanging out, when they show you what injuries they sustained on the weekend when they lift up there skirt and you see, all the private bits.

I had a conversation with a manager once and he said he will make them all wear uniform so it's not in your face. There is a time and place for it but not in a working environment.....but for me it takes the boredom out of the job! :)

Probably the laziest, least intellectual and lowest form of advertising.

Quite true, a bit like comedy  that uses it, along with foul language. It all gets a bit 'old'.

And internet forums are the first to crumble in the face of it.

I f___ing hate political correctness, and try as much as possible not to be politically correct. It's a form of mental control that is not necessary or beneficial in the main.

Of course sex sells. The difference is men are more obvious about it, and (some) women like to deny that it does for them too, and shut it down. I wonder if Renault had kept with the ad, how many sales it would have lost. My bet is none, because few people are going to make such a large decision, ie change to a different brand, because of a dislike of an ad, especially an ad that is not all that bad. Gutless b'stards.

Using her famous curves, Australian model Robyn Lawley has issued a blunt message to the Abbott government — ‘stop coal mining’.

Proving she has both model looks and brains, the 25-year-old wrote the direct words on her toned stomach with bright red lipstick in a bid to gain the attention of Australian politicians.

wonder if she got a nod from our Prime Winker
