Strangely enough, the solar flare was a topic of conversation at drinks-after-work, today. AIUI, a massive solar flare would take out all electronic gear on the side of the earth that happened to be facing the sun when the flare hit us - so a surge protector ain't gonna do nuttin! Even petrol/diesel cars - that are not connected to the grid - would die (given all their electronics). Regards, Andy
andyr Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 What? even my old HR Holden wagon! Weeell, true - maybe not that old rust bucket! Andy
Soundscape Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Weeell, true - maybe not that old rust bucket! Andy Rust is about the only thing that could kill a classic HR. Wagon of legend. 1
mrbuzzardstubble Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 I wouldn't mind just a little one to take us back to the late 60's 1
Addicted to music Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 It takes 2 years for NASA to release info like this, wtf! Imagine that, nothing electronic will work, life without SNA will be unthinkable...... Gee, I will missed djb and his tram expeditions.......
mello yello Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 imagine having to actually go and have to watch a live band

Monty Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 imagine having to actually go and have to watch a live band Acoustic of course. 1
Addicted to music Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 imagine having to actually go and have to watch a live band I'm not going to listen to djb sing... 1

The effect of a large CME on the earth amounts only to a severe disturbance of the geo-magnetic field. Electronics would be unaffected but large power grids would have large LF currents induced, leading to saturation of transformers and possible melt-downs. Edited July 27, 2014 by Art Vandelay
A9X Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 When I saw 'Audiophile Nightmare' in the title, I thought someone had had their Diana Krall disc scratched. 4
surprisetech Posted July 29, 2014 Posted July 29, 2014 imagine having to actually go and have to watch a live band By horse and cart. Is this another reason I should start looking for an upright bass?
