MKSOUND_HT Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) Hey all, I am currently using an Onkyo TX-SR577 A/V Receiver. While its great for general purpose, I feel like my setup is being underpowered. My mate has the same AAD speakers as me, but he is running a massive RMB1095 Amp for the 5 channel speakers and a Rotel RB991 2 channel amp for the rears. The sound of his speakers has so much more impact, and play at reference levels without any trouble (I wouldn't dare try those volumes with my small a/v receiver lol) My main thoughts are relating to the benefits of why I may consider going for the RMB-1095 instead of possibly keeping my search more open for the possibility of a RB-985 (fits into my budget a bit better too). This is being used specifically for Home Theater. If you may have a RB-985 or RMB-1095 available for sale in the next few months could you also let me know Thanks Adrian Edited July 25, 2014 by aad_ht
Silent Screamer Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) Don't you mean RB-985? The RMB-1075 and RMB-1095 are old analogue amps from yesteryear (I recently sold my RMB-1075 to a friend since it was sitting unused) The RB-1092 and RB-1091 I replaced the RMB-1075 with are infinitely better amps (but also a lot more expensive). Hi Mate, I had a RMB-985 which was a 5 channel amp: Thanks
MKSOUND_HT Posted July 25, 2014 Author Posted July 25, 2014 (edited) That's a RB-985 MkII. Opps I am very sorry you were correct. For some reason I thought the R series Multi channel amps had an M in them. Thats the one! FIRST POST EDITED: Changed my first post to include RB985 instead of RMB985 thanks Silent Screamer Edited July 25, 2014 by aad_ht
betty boop Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 The 1095 might be an old amp from yesteryear but there's nothing wrong with it, Infact would be a bargain for beast of a thing it is. Many combined 1095 with 1080 for 7ch setups. The Elektra t7 even the older theatre7 I myself found a better overall package. Sound quality and foot print. But go with whatever takes your fancy. But just because might be a few years old I wouldn't discourage you considering
Silent Screamer Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 That's ok I made the same mistake the first time I saw the RB-985, because it still looked identical to the RMB-1075 and RMB-1095

Picking one up cheaper than the RMB would be a challenge though. I just sold mine for $300.

Yes there are better. There always is better no matter what you buy. I also have one suggestion of better and what could get for similar money. There's lot of good amps there and especially second hand there'd be bargains
Silent Screamer Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Yes I remember trying to lift one when I bought my 1075. They were sonically the same as I heard them in a A/B tests. The main difference was 200w per channel vs 120w per channel, but since Rotel tend to be on the generous side it didn't make a huge difference unless you had some mega big speakers to drive. Guess it all comes down to what kind of dollars he can get a 1095 for, verses something newer. I certainly wouldn't tell anyone not to get one.
