Since Tarantino likes Eastern martial arts movies, I am going to recommend "Come Drink with Me" by the Chinese director King Hu to @@likwidsh0k. All other King Hu movies of the 60s and 70s are great too but this one remains my favourite. Cheng Pei Pei is awesome. Interestingly, I never met a Chinese who has heard of King Hu, although he became quite well known among movie enthusiasts in the West.

Thanks Misterioso :thumb:

Looking more for something along the Jules & Vincent dialogue kinda flicks, but I do love me some obscure martial arts goodness, eg. Kung Fu Hustle

the thirteenth floor.

Great movie. :)

Very underrated and largely unknown to a lot of people it seems.

I recommend Demon Seed.

Old sci-fi movie about a fully automated home security system that goes rogue.

Under The Skin

boring as batshit or brilliant, i dont know yet, havent seen it, but by all accounts it is at the very least, interesting

a female alien played by Scarlett Johansson prowls Glasgow for men, sounds familiar. Species ?

been described as very Kubrick, which makes me wonder if its one of those "directors movies" where the director tries to steal all the focus away from a thin plotline and just indulges in visuals and obscure references

point of interest, Scarlett Johansson's supporting actors are all unknowns which tends to make her presence in the film more "alienlike", and carries most of the film herself, a goddess amongst mortals?  nice deliberate concept, i wonder if it works

mixed reviews, hate it and love it

Scarlett ? whats not to love

trailer gives nothing away, which is welcome relief too

Clint Eastwood.

Jeff Bridges.

Awesome clothes, V8 cars, scantily clad women and guns.

Need I say more.

You've probably seen it though.

The Big Lebowski

Seen that about 20 times I reckon.

Never get sick of it.

Nice one, seen it, twice actually, cool sci-fi flick and the second time about two years ago when I was unsure if I had seen it, as the title is a bit deceiving ;)

Lebowski is practically canon.

A film that dwells in the shadows but one I rate highly:

Starman_festival_do_rio_2012_macacomalan

Love this film, made more powerful by the haunting theme.

Talking Starman have to suggest The Man Who Fell to Earth.

Never heard of that.

Will have to look it up

[EDIT]

From IMDb:

"In a decrepit South American village, men are hired to transport an urgent nitroglycerine shipment without the equipment that would make it safe."

Sounds interesting!

One explosive movie deserves a follow up.Brilliant movie.

Yes man!

I remember about 10 or 15 years ago, while I was studying with my mates on a Sunday, one of the guys told the following story during a short break:

"My dad told me the best movie he ever saw was called The Wages of Fear. Very curious as it was an older movie, we found it on the video shop and brought it home to see what it was about. Guys, it was the most boring movie you can imagine! Older than old, in black and white, crap effects, crap acting... I could go on... we fell asleep during the movie and laughed our heads off at dad, who, by the way, still insisted it was a great movie".

We had a laught at that, but I could never quite forget the name (since we spoke in spanish, he told us about "El salario del miedo"... that sounds really spooky).

Many years later, 5 or 10, I was studying in Germany, where they had a not too bad collection of DVDs at the school library. And guess what I found! I took it home, expecting to fall asleep, but was thoroughly entertained with the movie (other than it was in french, it was quite OK). Following that, I sent an email to my buddy and his dad to set the record straight and vindicate him.

I may not ever see that movie again, but it always comes back to me in good ways.

Alberto

PS.: @@Dirty_vinylpusher, you could watch "Star Wars" actually...  Start with Ep. IV - "A New Hope", and don't go near "The Phantom Menace".

From the brilliant mind of Guillermo del Toro, a film I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone and everyone here, Pans Labyrinth:

I had to comment on this one, it was amazing but I must admit that one scene you included a picture of freaked me out something shocking.. The father was a scary dude for sure!!!

@, indeed an excellent film, my very favorite.

In regards to the pic of Pale Man in my earlier post, a funny story. I introduced my partner to Pans many years ago as she hadn't seen it. She does not cope with even remotely scary movies or characters so he was a bit to handle. After the movie finished I left the room, grabbed a pen and drew some eyeballs on the palms of my hands. Came back into the lounge, hands up as in that pic to scare her. It was bloody funny. Well at least for me any way! Hahaha

Hi

Whilst on 50's classics I would recommend to betocool

"Touch of Evil"

touch_of_evil.jpg

Orson Wells at his best, both as an actor, director and writer ...

Another blast from the past, saw it more or less on the same situation as "The Wages of Fear". Indeed you're right, a very enjoyable movie.

Another 50s classic, this one following Currently Watching mention of a possible sci-fi thread..

Just saw "Lucy" 2 weeks ago and really enjoyed that.

This had you on the edge of yer seat for most of the time and was a good diversionary flick that made you think.

8.5 / 10

Also just saw The Journey of 100 Feet last night.

What a marvelous easy going film with no profanities or violence. Great story line and great acting.
