Just wondering whether any vinyl loving jazz fans have partaken of any of these new reissue series from Blue Note?

I have several Blue Note reissues from years past, just wondering what the latest batch may be like. The first I will pick up is the Cassandra Wilson: Travelling Miles record. Great album and looking forward to finally having it on vinyl.

Beginning in March this year, Blue Note will roll out 5 remastered vinyl reissues a month, and some of the titles listed are great jazz albums.

I bought Horace Silver Quintet's Song For My Father a week or two ago. It's rubbish. Noisy vinyl with multiple pressing errors. I wouldn't touch another one with a bargepole.

While we're on the subject i've found that virtually every jazz re-issue i've bought in the last couple of years have been badly pressed, stuff by Sonny Rollins, Bill Evans, Miles Davis etc. These haven't been "audiophile" label re-issues just standard US imports and there are numerous issues with them all, the most irritating of all is where it sounds as if two grooves have melted together so you get a distorted preview of some seconds ahead along with what is in the groove currently.

I'm thinking of upgrading my cd player and buying jazz cds as the vinyl has been so poor.

I decided to buy one of the 75th anniversary releases

Grant Green - Street of Dreams.   mastered by Burnie Grundman.

I don't own this previously but do have quite a few Grant Green lp's.   It sounds pretty good, nice and airy and pressing is good with no issues.

thumbs up from me as @ around $17 or less that are excellent value.   I think I will buy a few more albums that I don't have.

Fremer write up on the first set.

I picked up Dolphy's Out To Lunch. The pressing is rubbish. Dimples in the surface, and what appears to be surface abrasions from packaging. On first play it sounded like a well worn original pressing.

I will not be buying any more from this series.

I have Monk's Genius of Modern Music Vol. 1. Vol. 2 will be released next month. I planned to buy it until I listened to Vol. 1. Terrible pressing quality, stay away. I wish Music Matters would reissue these Monk albums.

Seems like I have been lucky so far, and I have the united pressing.  MM releases are a lot more expensive.

The Optimal German pressings are supposed to be quite a bit better/more consistent.

I will buy more from Amazon only so if they are crap they replace/ refund with zero hassle.

I got Brian Blade's "Perceptual" which arrived with 1 LP warped and both were full of marks and annoying ticks. It's a bit inconsistent as my copies of "Somethin' Else" and "Song For my Father" were good. Better to shell out double the $ for better quality Music Matters products. Got their Grant Green's "Idle Moments" which I find is one of the best.
