cue
i have been given an ONKYO CP-5000A in fairly good physical condition but the stylus is a little bent. I have never heard about this TT, is it worthwhile to invest in a new stylus or cartridge? Does anyone know about this TT? Any coment is highly appreciated. Sierra
Hi Cue, That Onkyo CP-5000A was my very first turntable back in 1979 ... It was a decent entry level belt drive TT for it's time ... not in the same league as a Rega Planar 2 or 3 of the same era ... but it wasn't a piece of junk either. I got rid of the Onkyo cartridge that came with the TT pretty quickly and fitted a Shure V15 type IV ... and then a bit later upgraded to my first MC cartridge an Audio Technica AT32 fitted to an Orsonic headshell. Eventually I replaced my CP-5000A with the Rega Planar 3 that I still have today. No it wouldn't be a waste to invest in a replacement cartridge if you were to keep it. I'm curious though ... this is the second piece of Onkyo equipment that you have asked about (previous was the TA-623 cassette deck) that I have owned. I don't suppose you also have an Onkyo A3000 integrated amp ... an Onkyo T5000 tuner and Onkyo S5000 speakers do you? :P
cue
Thanks for your input. I have recently purchased athis Onkyo setup for a few bucks. It consists of the S5000 speakers, the TA-623, T500 tuner but unfortunately no A3000. It is all from a deceased estate and physically dirty but in mint condition. I even goe all the manuals and athe original cabinet and headphones as well. I wanted to keep the TT and Tape deck if I can manage to shine them up again.
