To give him my number so that we can discuss the items potential use in my system.Would seem sensible to me.Is that ok with you?

and from the same link you supplied;

  • All SNA members are reminded that WTS and WTB threads are, in general, not a place for open slather discussion on the relative merits of various equipment.

From the linked guidelines

. Please avoid replying to listings with "PM Sent". This does not mean anything. If you are making an offer, if you wish to reply, then post "Offer Sent". Or if the listing includes multiple items for sale, please state which products you have made an offer on. This allows other interested parties to make an offer on other items for sale.

Maybe you should follow the Forum Guidelines. It is a free service so if you want to ignore the rules you should stick to EBay.

I was sticking to the rules I don't think phone numbers should be put on the forrums that's all I can say politely

can i send a pm?

Of course you can. Just no need to advertise it in the thread because it is meaningless. It is all explained in the guidelines.

Kids maybe you should stop this, give some consideration to the seller, gee

Why? it keeps pushing the Ad up into sight. I am sure the seller is being inundated with PM's. Some might even be offering to buy his amp.

Doesn't push it anywhere, ads are listed according to date/time.

The potential sale of this item has not been affected by myself or Maxi.

He's got 2 serious buyers and both of has have PM'd the seller to give him our contact details to discuss the item with a view to purchasing, neither of us has made an offer though, thus neither of us has posted Offer Sent, because we didn't send an offer,we sent PM's.

Can't make it any more clear.

Fair enough Skidstar. You have a right to PM the seller about any questions you may have. Nobody is disputing that in any way ( certainly not me )

However....................if the message is private, and by definition a PM is exactly that, then why tell the entire forum that you have sent same?

I send PMs from time to time to various sellers if I have a legitimate question and I don't need to tell everyone that I have done so.

Regardless of this, the forum guidelines specifically state NOT TO POST PM SENT so why would anyone knowingly do so.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy the purchase :)

Cheers

Maybe you could send a PM to the Mods and ask them to change the rules to suit you. All I did is point out that you were in breach of the rules. I don't make the rules, I observe them.

I wrote PM sent because I know that when I have more than 1 message in my inbox as soon as I read the first the little red triangle telling me how many messages I have disappears, thus it is easy to miss or forget PM'd messages. If the seller however goes and has a look at the postings to his actual ad he can see he has a PM that he may have missed. For the sake of taking up 1 millionth of a second of another members time by having them read "PM sent"I really can't see the problem.

I wonder also the use of posting "Offer Sent,",It doesn't tell anybody anything, just as "PM Sent" doesn't tell anybody anything. Both messages however have a meaning for both the potential buyer and seller, and maybe that's how it should be,a discussion between those two parties. If your not involved, consider moving on.
