Are there many shops that sell a range of SACD disks in Adelaide? I'm thinking contemporary music rather than orchestral or should I just go on-line? Is there a good Australian on-line retailer for SACD?

Cheers

Haven't seen any in Adelaide , I buy online .

@ "elcamry" if I may ask where online do you purchase from? Does anyone want to pop over and bring a few SACDs along to listen to? I want to give the player a good run one day

Don't expect any SACD shops in Adelaide Frank.Given they would be ordered from overseas you are best buy on the net.Best site for seeing what has been  available is sa-cd net.Buying from Amazon and ebay is good for price .CD japan have a new range to look at.Discogs has a good range from sellers..Im due a visit and could bring some over or meet you at work with some if I know what you are after and you can play for a week or so.When buying new get in early as they are limited runs and price goes up quickly.

Darklaker has a few hundred  which are gathering dust!

Big Star used to have some when they had their shop in Rundle St.The shop on Norwood Pde had a small collection of them too.Last I heard they still had a shop in Magill Rd.Not sure if they are still in business.

You might want to try JB if you happen to be in town.Unfortunately JB aren't the music shop they used to be.They've downsized their rack space (like most of their shops) by about 40% since I lived in Adelaide.

No disrespect to any JB HiFi workers here but in the few times I have asked I generally get blank stares if I ask about SACD's at JB HiFi. Once I got quite a knowledgable young lady but that was the exception. I really think your best bet is online.

pretend you are in an old school record shop and LOOK, I had to because the girl thought SACD meant South Australian CDs

Thank you everyone for the helpful replies. Dropped in to Challenge HiFi on Prospect Rd and Steve has quite a few, orchestral, Jazz, Blues & Contemporary. They also have boxes of new vinyl.

In addition, Challenge is now an authorised outlet for Audio Research - they have the big CD player and a v nice valve integrated.

Stump, I'll check out those sites.

Cheers all

For online purchase of classical  SACD and CDs I've found that Presto Classical is hard to beat as far as a good selection also Bookworld Australia have a few with free delivery and their prices aren't too bad.

And their music selection is quite limited. Try looking for world music, jazz, blues, folk etc and you will probably find a small rack down the back of the store with a barely token collection. Their classical selection is woeful as well. Most of their stock is lumped under 'alternative', whatever that means!

I knows of one available at one JB's but that's the end of it for Adelaide. eBay is the only way now :( Amazon have some new releases at a fair price but older ones are a fierce price.

There used to be a great SACD library in bridgewater - unfortunately it relocated to Scotland :-(
