I recently went to Italy for a working holiday with the family. I got sick of being interupted from watching movies by my 2 little girls so decided to look into the album collections on Emirates.

Came away with this list of artists or albums to follow up on Spotify once home. Being in an A380 and wearing Bose noise cancelling headphones the sound was quite okay given the situation, but an exhausted/dreary state is not the best to critic music. Obviously the last 2 are old classic recordings I've never owned for some reason. I'll rectify that soon.

Bull Funk Zoo
James Vincent McMorrow
Billie Joe & Norah Jones
Lorde
Haim- days are gone
Linkin park-Recharged/living things
Pearl Jam-lightening bolt
Birdy
London Grammar-if you want
The temperance movement
Franz Ferdinand-right thoughts,right words
Thirty Seconds to Mars-Love Lust Faith & dreams
Imagine Dragons-night visions
Paulo Nutini-Caustic Love
Damon Albarn- Everyday Robots
Christina Perri- Head or Heart
Massive attack- Blue Lines
The stone roses- the stone roses

I listened to Bull Funk Zoo yesterday and wasn't as taken as I was inflight. Liking James Vincent McMorrows 2 most recent albums though... God I love Spotify for this reason alone.

Time machine - the only way to avoid a long flight in the first place. Works for me all the time.

Lots of compromises watching movies on a plane - I seldom bothered.

Was very happy back when the airlines first started offering the option to listen to albums. No Spotify or anything similar back then.  Resulted in a few subsequent purchases.

Prior to that I mostly listened to the Soul/R&B Channel.

I usually sleep like a log, even down the back. Unfortunately a 3 and 4 yo were not going to let that happen like it does when traveling solo. Did manage to sleep roughly half of the Melbourne Dubai leg though. Then tried as best I could to stay awake for most of Dubai > Venice as we were arriving mid arvo. My girls fell asleep AS WE WERE WALKING to dinner that night!

I find the opposite. Can't concentrate on music and find myself nodding off. I usually try and watch movies I know my wife wouldn't be interested in or aren't HT room worthy like comedies.

Me too, it's certainly a good way to pass the time

This is also my criteria for inflight music selection

I think the slight oxygen deprivation makes things seem good that would otherwise seem like mindless crap. Eg I got a few laughs watching "the Interns" on a flight. But when I tried to watch the end later in the hotel, I realised it was complete shite.

I don't have a problem at all. Last time I took a long haul flight overseas was in a Catalina Flying Boat and it was too noisy to watch Gone With The Wind on the in flight entertainment system

I only travel overseas by ship:White Star Line.I wouldn't recommend it for the music though. They always seem to play either "Autumn" or "Nearer My God To Thee"

Pisses the other passengers off though...but the only way to drown out the engine noise...
