Guest
Getting closer The Lepai amp will go under the shelf on the right probably. May or may not use that computer PSU, not sure yet. The space on the left will be for charging phone, cordless drill batteries etc. For now. Until I put more amps in there, no doubt.
Guest
Am putting a couple of computer fans in the roof of the box to draw some heat out. Do I need to put one as an intake as well, or just have a vent down the bottom or side? A fan at the intake might be overkill....
joz
Just on the out, a vent on the bottom should be fine with a fan. Edited July 26, 2015 by joz
Guest
All hooked up and working At the moment the Lepai is running off the headphone output at the back of the amp, but I will probably look at splitting the inputs between the big amp and the little one. I hadn't tried this amp with 4 speakers before and have now found out that running 4 speakers as compared to 2 makes a difference. With only 2 they are louder than when you switch the second pair on. Have had a number of 4 channel amps before and none of them have done that. Not that it matters, but still interesting. I need to set up a better aerial for the tuner to get max reception but it still sounds ok as it is. Ended up putting two fans at the top, still need a vent at the bottom for intake. Will put a switch on those two fans as well so they're not on when not needed. Like now, And some foam or rubber around the lid to seal it up a bit better. Lots of wires to tidy up and tuck away but that's for another day. All in all I'm stoked and loving my new shed system and box.

Saxon Hall
RE your fans to keep your protective enclosure cooler. You should put at least a basic filter on the air intake otherwise the dust will be sucked in and defeat the purpose of the box.

waricle
If you keep a positive pressure in the box rather than a negative pressure the dust won't get sucked in but blown out, a filtered inlet fan for clean air in and more filters or restricted outlets where the air exhausts will maintain a positive pressure inside and dust out. Guest
Hmmmm yeh ok that makes sense too. Although the air going in will be from outside the shed. That was one of the reasons to put it by the door. So I wouldn't draw "shed air" in to it. I'll muck around a bit with that once I've sorted out the wiring.
Guest
Ah got the multi-amp issue sorted. Run the Lepai off the "Tape B REC" output on the main amp. No distortion or crackle. Also discovered that the Lepai can't be that close to the tuner as there's interference  Only thing to be added now is a second Lepai for outdoor speakers under the deck. Well, not UNDER the deck, under the backrests of the benches. Edited July 26, 2015 by Dirty_vinylpusher
skies2clear
Glad I'm not the only nutcase out there 😠this is my underground workshop. Sounds not too shabby. There's some other interesting stuff stashed in there too.....just not enough room! Regards, The cellar dweller
Guest
Shed system and box working well. Haven't used the extractor fans yet as it's not been that hot. I almost remember to keep the box closed all the time when grinding and welding.... For the most part I just use the Lepai and two little speakers when working in the shed. One above the bench and one on the opposite wall. Spraycans make everything more fun. I still reach for the stereo where it used to be from time to time as well.
Darren69
OK, get ready to have your shed/workshop world rocked. My system- The dear old Sony amp that has been with me since the late 80's, it's like part of the family. Teamed up with a humble little pawn shop Sony disc player ..and the Krix weatherproof speakers that I got here off the classifieds, am very happy with them. What you cant see is Krispy Mk II IC's and lamp-wire SC's. oh yeah. the Krispy IC's made a big difference, really. They were being wasted in my drawer so I took them out to the shed system and now I have more bass.

Guest
Getting a bit warmer up here now, and was running the shed system with the hatch closed for a few hours earlier. Thought I'd check the amp, and well yes it was a bit warm. Nothing to write home about though. Anyway, I hooked the fans up, as I've not used them yet, and after a couple of minutes I checked the amp again. Cool as a cucumber

betocool
Not a workshop, not a shed, and yet, I get work done in here. Absolutely over the top and unnecessary, but sweet sounding bliss. I built the speakers a few months back (the ones on the bottom) using the components of some verge rubbish Sony speakers. Then I thought about selling the Yamahas (top). But... No one bought the Yamahas. And... I had to test the A/B functionality on my modified Sony. Oh, good! I still have the Yamahas! He-who-must-not-be-discussed-in-this-forum be damned! This is THE sound I was looking for! Each speaker set covers up the other sets weaknesses. The ones on the bottom have a bit more edge to it, bass like, the ones on the top are a bit more mellow, with a more relaxed bass, but together, just perfect! Ok, ok, they take a bit of space... but very well worth it! Really envolving and detailed. Using an ex-phone as pseudo media server, the sound is pretty fantastic. Yeah, I know, I'm rambling, hey, I like this system, ok? And the obligatory Hendrix perm pic...
Guest
@@betocool Those "verge rubbish speakers" were probably from the same era as these: http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/topic/76540-question-about-run-of-the-mill-stereo-stuff/ I've played around with a few pairs of these using them for boomboxes etc, and there is definitely a difference once you put them in a half decent box as compared to the chipboard original. I'm running a pair (still in original box) in the shed off a Lepai amp and intend to build new boxes for them one day.....once I've finished at least 2 of my current projects [EDIT] Ah yes..pics here http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/topic/67362-showcase-your-workshop-system/?p=1422265 Pioneer.
