yeahpetrus Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Afternoon all, I'm thinking of dipping my toe back into vinyl. I grew up with my father's collection and a Rega Planar 2. Both have seen better days so I thought I'd start purchasing new recordings for an upgraded turntable. I'm thinking something like a Pro-ject DC or higher up the chain, maybe a Rega P?. If anyone has something in this zone for around $500-700, please let me know. I'm in Sydney for collect. Cheers, David.
manchu Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 IMO....for $500-$700 you probably wont do much better than your Planar 2 (depending on condition of course). ~ $300 on a new cart + $300 on new records is how I'd spend your money 1
Upfront Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 $700 would give you a lot better than a rega. Second hand of course. Keep an eye on the classifieds.
mlinvpp Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Thorens TD160 with a SME 3009 arm would fit the bill, it's a matter of finding one in good condition. good luck with your hunting. (researching)
yeahpetrus Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Thanks for the feedback, all. Will continue the journey!
dwbasement Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 Hi David, I am going to sell my RP1 (white) with white belt, Denon DL110 (and with the stock Ortofon OM5E as a spare) and possible with an acrylic platter (milky white) from acrylteller. which will fit your budget. Let me know if you are interested. I am from Sydney too so pick up is not a problem. Cheers Dennis
