metal beat Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Universal Music will issue All The Voices, a 10LP vinyl box set collecting the work of INXS, in September. The box will contain all ten Hutchence-era studio albums remastered at Abbey Road using the digital 2011 remasters. We are promised ‘exact replicas’ of original packaging (although the eagle-eyed fan might spot that Welcome To Wherever You Are, in the image above sports the CD cover design, not the vinyl) and 1997′s Elegantly Wasted is pressed on LP for the first time within this set. The albums will also be available individually in November 2014, if you don’t want to stump up for the entire catalogue in this box set. All The Voices is released on 1 September 2014. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KTSQ27S/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B00KTSQ27S&linkCode=as2&tag=superdeluxeed-21 2
mondie Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 2001 Digital remasters, not familiar with them but is there any chance these can improve on the original analogue LP's?
metal beat Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 2011 masters Mondie :-) Better than the original pressings? Doubt it for the early albums but could easily be better on the last few. Buy I am looking forward to their last album on vinyl for the first time Perhaps Full Moon will sound better 3nd time round as it is really bad first time around.
mondie Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 yes 2011, typing too quickly I cannot get too excited about this set.
awty Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) No "INXSIVE"? I have the first 5 (including INXSIVE which has the cover of The Loved One, also have the original), think I was over them by the time of The Swing. Shabooh Shoobah is a reasonable album still. Edited June 16, 2014 by awty
audacity Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Just placed a pre-order. Bugger, I just bought Listen Like Thieves and Kick. Oh well, looking forward to Welcome To and Elegantly Wasted on vinyl. 1
metal beat Posted July 26, 2014 Author Posted July 26, 2014 I have just noticed the price has gone up to £200. That is a lot more expensive than my early placeholder order.
audacity Posted July 26, 2014 Posted July 26, 2014 I have just noticed the price has gone up to £200. That is a lot more expensive than my early placeholder order. So now the cheapest price would be... http://store.universalmusic.com/udiscover/*/Deluxe-Boxsets/All-The-Voices-10-LP-Boxset/3DGY03QU000 £99.99 + £30.99 shipping = $AU236.67

metal beat Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 @Jake Guess what I saw on the back of the box Audio: Sean Magee - Abbey Road studios. That is Sean of the current Beatles box set fame - he is the main mastering engineer at Abbey Road. My expectations have been raised slightly, even if they are digital masters

Why GZ though?!
metal beat Posted September 11, 2014 Author Posted September 11, 2014 Well that is something. Why GZ though?! seems to be Universal music's el cheapo pressing plant of box set choice. GZ also did all the Rolling Stones box sets. They also did all the boxes for the Beatles mono sets, but not the pressings.

I'll take this up with amazon uk tonight after i play Elegantly Wasted on lp for the first time. After a bit of negotiation, amazon uk will ship the replacement box set out Priority shipping and I will not ship back the original box til after the replacement arrives. This will save any issue I might have with the 2nd box. They will then pay the $142.30 to ship back 4.6kg's back to the UK. BTW - bloody good box set and sounds excellent. A little smoother than the originals, but not to losing much of the vitality the original pressings have. Michael's voice is sounding particulary good on everything I have played so far. the midrange seems to have better detail and the upper bass just a little inflated - but not bloated. Listen like Thieves is still quite raw and agressive sounding but better integrated - some tracks on the original pressing a little too forward/agressive in guitar. The Swing still has plenty of kick. 2014 Kick vs the mofi Kick is interesting - mofi is agressive and rather thin sounding - Michael sounds as if he is straining on many songs, whereas the 2014 his voice is a little more natural. Elegantly Wasted sounds bloody good and worth the admission price for me. the rest of the box is rather nice cream It does a lot of things better than the originals, but not everything better. I am more than pleasantly surprised and well worth getting imo. Edited September 13, 2014 by metal beat 1
mondie Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 They will then pay the $142.30 to ship back 4.6kg's back to the UK. Is that be return Lear Jet? Good to see Amazon doing the right thing. I was not going to bother with this set, your SQ comments have me wondering now...
metal beat Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) Is that be return Lear Jet? Good to see Amazon doing the right thing. I was not going to bother with this set, your SQ comments have me wondering now... The cheapest trackable airfreight cost. Airmail was like $136 or something. Freight from Australia is a complete rip off. I would be stuck with this box set if I ordered from Acoustic sounds or those other US based sellers. My replacement box is all ready preparing for shipment. Amazon rates are just unbelievable as is their return customer service. I am more than happy with the overall sound quality of this box set. Sounds a little more overproduced now vs originals but the are clean sounding without too much digitalis I can perceive and easy to CRANK the volume. I have read the individual lp,'s will be released in Nov? Nothing official thou. Cheers Edited September 14, 2014 by metal beat 1
metal beat Posted September 20, 2014 Author Posted September 20, 2014 (edited) Got my replacement box on Friday X was in the box thankfully. X sounds excellent as does Welcome to Where Ever you Are. Interesting, Welcome sounds less digital than the original Euro pressing and has better detail and coherence. Shabooh Shoobah sounds awesome cranked Loud, especially " To Look at you " Full Moon, dirty Hearts which sounds like crap on the original Euro pressing sounds a lot better - even if the album is their weakest. While the pressings are not as great as the Beatles box, they are more than adequate and defect free. The sonics of the box is excellent and much better than I was expecting. Sean Magee of Beatles mastering fame has done an outstanding job mastering the albums for viny at Abbey Road. Cheers Edited September 20, 2014 by metal beat 1
mondie Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 So Shane its fair to say these are very well mastered from digital sources and generally better than the originals? Are there any extras or is it just the 10 albums in a box (or slipcase?) I have tried finding more info on line but there is not much around at all. Think I will take the plunge on this. Amazon UK is way cheaper than anywhere else by a huge amount. Cheers 1
metal beat Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 (edited) Hi Simon Overall the sound of the albums and the box set is generally excellent. Some original Aussie pressings might sound a little better in some respects, but the remastered albums are extremely good and give a slightly different perspective on the sound. Full Moon, Dirty Hearts, Shabooh Shoobah , Welcome to Wherever, X definately sound better than my original pressings. Consistently Michael's voice is clearer and the detail in the mids and upper frequency seems better sorted to some of the original pressings so I am hearing some keyboard layering that I did not realise was there. No extras, just the 10 lp's. cheers. Edited October 1, 2014 by metal beat 2
mondie Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Glad to hear that Shane as i took the plunge a couple of days ago. Looking forward to getting this one.
