A J Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Just saw Walter Mitty - actually now seen it 4 times Aside from the absolute visual symphony this movie presents - my favourite scene is when he's faced with a ride in a chopper in a storm with a drunk pilot - and he suddenly imagines the girl he fancies singing major tom to him. It's a stunning scene.
Saxon Hall Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 Yes it is a very funny scene especially the choice of song the drunk is singing in the bar before the wild chopper ride. The scenes of Iceland are stunning on the big screen and I am sure it will do wonders for tourism there.
RockandorRoll Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Loved this movie, really makes me want to get out and travel (then i look at the bank account) Great soundtrack as well. The Longboard scene down to the Volcano was my favourite, but it was a bit unbelievable how far he ran when the bike broke My favourite scene in a movie of all time is the opening to Once Upon a Time in The West. Absolute perfection!
JukKluk2 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Alternatively: the Also Sprach Zarathustra moment at the start of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The bone to spacecraft Blue Danube shortly thereafter is worthy of consideration too.
mello yello Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) The Sharon Stone crossover in Basic Instinct...redefined what moviegoers wanted to watch The Johnson scene from Austen Powers and one that popped up in the Love Guru last night...a scene where he asks one of his disciples having a "moment"... "what is it you cant face" LOL... "what did you call me?" LOL Edited June 16, 2014 by mello yello II 1
hired goon Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 ^ Stole that bit from "The Sound Of Music", where the Mother Superior asks "What is it you can't face Maria?" --Geoff

betocool Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 "Duelling Pianos", featuring Donald Duck and Daffy Duck on stage, live at the Ink and Paint Club from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?". Watched it when I was 11, favourite scene (Disney & Warner together!) ever since. And they play Franz Liszt's "Hungarian Rhapsody".
Kaynin Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 The scene where Erika Eleniak comes out of the birthday cake in Under Siege. 1
LHC Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I would nominate the John Hurt death scene in 'Alien'. In a recent interview Sigourney Weaver had this to say about shooting that scene (http://collider.com/alien-sequel-sigourney-weaver/#rH6P2mYyC6xJ6IsK.99): "We all read the script. We knew something was going to come out of John Hurt’s chest. He had a line that said ‘Oh my GGGGGOOOODDDD’. It was pretty big on the page. We all knew what happened. We get down to set and everyone is wearing a poncho. [Writers] Dan O’ Bannon and Ronald Schusett, who were around the whole time, were over in the corner [giggling away] like it was Christmas morning. But none of that tipped it off to me. It wasn’t until we actually started. We didn’t rehearse. Ridley wasn’t in favor of rehearsing even when there were special effects involved. So we started to have that casual conversation about breakfast and what we’re going to do and what we’re going to eat when we get home and then John Hurt just started coughing and I completely forgot we were making a movie. I thought he was choking and when his chest filled with blood, we were all just stunned. It was so real to us and he was so convincing. That was the first take and then without any time at all — the second take — they must have changed something in him quickly, some sort of piece but there was no big setup and then suddenly this thing burst out of his chest, stood on the table and flew off. There’s a master of everyone [looking stunned] — they’re using the master because that’s exactly how [we felt]. We couldn’t believe what we had just seen. I still to this day having been in movies where special effects play a crucial part, I can’t believe that a couple of guys got under the table with a few rubber tubes and made that happen." 1
emesbee Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Gravity The closing credits, what a load of crap this movie is... I like Gravity, but the ending lets it down. That clip is a load of crap though, just two annoying Americans gabbling away.
shaky Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Raiders of the Lost Ark at the start, from the cave, one hell of a marble chasing Harrison Ford, then the tribes, then the seaplane take off with a special guest waiting in the seat for him. One of my very favorite movies as a young fella.
betocool Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." Beat that!
hired goon Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 I would nominate the John Hurt death scene in 'Alien'. Alien is a weird movie, a horror movie about fear of sex. It's no accident that H.R.Giger was involved, or that the design of the spaceships and aliens is all vaginas, penises, wombs and eggs, and that John Hurt is orally raped, impregnated, then gives birth to a penis. --Geoff

LHC Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) Unbelievable, "I'll have what hired goon is on" If this is any guide HG had been listening to Bach's Musical Offering LP http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/topic/5675-classical-currently-spinning-thread/page-58 Edited June 21, 2014 by LHC
ZEN MISTER Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Well, that's put a different spin on it! I've always though of it as a suspense movie. .......Sigourney Weaver has had some very interesting thoughts on the subtext, and she specifically has stated the strongest theme is the male fear of penetration. You can read most good cinema in many ways, and yes, "ALIEN" is a classic haunted house scenario done as a space opera. But as Geoff noted, look at the signifers and the context. At the base level, it is about actions of one generation echoing through the centuries. Its shows the use and misuse of human endeavour when an amoral corporation is in the ascendent. It shows the exploitation of "workers" sent to certain death, to clean up the corporate bungle. It shows the use of biologically 'real' robots , who have an advanced level of empathy and sentience within their circuitry. It is about perpetuation of species, by violent means. i.e. rape. It was one of the earlier films to flip the gender switch, with a smart and gutsy female hero. If you want to enjoy it as just entertainment, go for it. But it is much more than that. ZM. 1
mrbuzzardstubble Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I read somewhere recently that Sigourney Weaver is keen to make one more Alien movie.
Kaynin Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Please no, the first 2 were brilliant, should have stopped there, IMHO. 1
