betty boop Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 Well something have owned for over 6 years now, and very proud off. Whom would have thought for something that usually gets out of date every couple of years would still be at forefront in AV capability. Certainly leaves me wanting for nothing in the AV realm even to this day Denon a few years ago were very kind to give its owners an audyssey and denon link update. And then again few years ago they offered another hardware and software update giving capability for 3D and Audyssey XT32 etc etc .. Denon really was looking ahead in time when they designed this one, I honestly can't think of one other av processor on the market either decked out or fully featured as this one ! Long live the Denon AVP-A1HD. Definitely worth catching a few under the hood shots here below an article from audioholics re the avp-a1HD and its "balanced transmission further explored" http://www.audioholics.com/av-preamp-processor-reviews/denon-avp-a1hdci/review-addendum-balanced-transmission-further-explored along with a schematic from the article giving more clues to its design, and also a design overview, http://www.audioholics.com/av-preamp-processor-reviews/denon-avp-a1hdci/design-overview another schematic, some of the goodies, couple of more shots of the denon here it is taking pride of place in my system, and the back end, Denon only brings out the flagship A series every decade, this AVP being the 3rd release, so probably still a few years yet while have to worry about replacing this one 1
DoggieHowser Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 I believe Theta has a much more modular design - tho you'd have to pay through the nose for that privilege. You do get to upgrade from the first gen to the latest (4th IIRC) model though. The A1 is a remarkable design for the consumer (and not esoteric budget) tho. I just wish they had included 11.2 Neo X processing when they did their HDMI 1.4 update a few years back.

I know a few in the avp owners whom jumped ship from the theta across to the avp and quite happy with the move. the avp was never meant to be modular or upgradeable, which makes even more a bonus for those whom bought into it. I certainly saw myself only prob ever owning it 3 maybe 4 years max before needing to update. before the avp I was upgrading almost every year or couple of years max given the pace of change in the av space. ~ I just wish they had included 11.2 Neo X processing when they did their HDMI 1.4 update a few years back. I was pretty happy with what the upgrade brought in hdmi v1.4/3D and audyssey xt32 plus another bonus in pro ability for au/asia/eu regions. there was audyssey dsx and PLIIZ for those wanting to go beyond 7.3 to 9.3 but really things like processing past native channels on disc am really yet to be convinced on benefit past 7.1 in domestic theatres. once the next gen blu-ray format (4K) arrives (2 years away by all accounts) perhaps they might bring beyond 7.1 native support and even then will still have to be convinced the benefit of fitting another 4 plus speakers in my 7.2 system have already !
