Well as some of you know I'm about to make the big move to the new house.

My room has 12 dedicated 20A lines. I was wondering how I go about changing a few of these power points to accept US power cables, adapters aren't wanted.

I think Shunyata makes decent ones but not 100% sure.

Thanks in advance.

You will have to do it yourself because a licensed electrician will not do it because it is illegal. They would risk losing their licence. I am not moralising here just stating a fact.

Does anyone here have them in their house?

Any info would be great.

Cheers.

They wouldn't cover . How many years and how much coin do you have to play in the courts .

Cheers

It would probably be cheaper to convert all of your power cables with Furutech AU male plugs than risk installing USA sockets into your home.

Hesitant to do this when they are the 4 figure variety.

Unless I am missing something here ...

What about the voltage difference?   USA is120V

Do the devices have switchable voltage inputs for 240V? ...

The in-between option is to use unswitched AU outlets. Interestingly a good source for these is in NZ. I've got one customer who has changed his outlet to US, did it himself of course, and reported an improvement. It was either a Shunyata or Furutech one (can't remember), annoying that they don't make AU ones. I believe they'd be a huge success here if anyone did make a high-end AU one...

I've made boxes up before using the US points and then plugging them into ours...................easily removed and hidden away............just in case.

Unswitched outlets are available from j r Turks, made by clipsal, used in distribution boards and commercial installations.

Some items are only available for purchase if you are a licensed electrician.

I know 'piggy back' plugs are on the list but not sure about unswitchable outlets.

So the question is are the unswitched outlet legal? Does all outlets need to be approval? I know this is true with likes of electrical applicances and maybe power boards.

Otherwise, something like this might work :

I might call up an electrician and ask.

Outlets do not need to be switched but they do need to be approved.

As do powerboards.

Sourcing unapproved, cheap & NASTY outlets from outside Oz?

If you house burns down, just hope it burns to the ground & destroys all evidence of your non-approved plugs & sockets.

Otherwise known as a "get out of paying" ticket to your insurance company.

Thanks for that. So where do I check if it's an approved item? Just as a reference, the pdl ones refered to in an earlier post? I would assume that the nz and Aussie standard is similar, if not the same.
