BigJim Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I liked Humbug and I'd like to enjoy this but it's either my stereo or the life has been compressed out of AM to make it unlistenable. I've got the CD. I've tried a few times and just give up. Anybody else have the same experience?
BigJim Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 Buy the album on lp, sounds fine Turntable is packed up in a box at the moment, no space in current house. I could buy the LP and could sit and look at it. That would be preferable to listening to the CD version!
metal beat Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 It will be in different musical league compared to the CD. Put the CD in the box and replace it with the turntable.
maxspl Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Agreed...the vinyl sounds great , very little dynamic compression used in mastering for the vinyl release. The louder you play it the better it sounds....the opposite of the cd , which is yet another victim of the dynamic compression loudness wars.

Or another example where vinyl plays the music and CD, well
BigJim Posted June 7, 2014 Author Posted June 7, 2014 I thought it was dynamic compression on the CD version but just needed confirmation from the experts! Looks like it's time to get the turntable out of the box then...... 1
Briz Vegas Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) What does the vinyl cost locally? I think I was put off by the price as it was over $40. I think that's my, do I really want this price, $30 to $35 I am prepared to take a risk. I am paying $45 for Jack Whites Lazeretto locally at Rockinghorse, but that comes with a CD, which is a different version of the album, it's $53 at JB I have a couple of their albums on digital, Humbug and....the white one. Humbug is better. I should probably YouTube the LP before considering purchase. I also have the issue that my digital is better than my vinyl, not that LP is bad, its very good but it's just not as good as the Naim/Valhalla combo. Edited June 10, 2014 by Briz Vegas
Freedom Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Or another example where vinyl plays the music and CD, well  Depends on how much $$$$ you've invested in your 'vinyl rig'!
