Mr 57 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Wondering if any of my fellow music lovers have heard or purchased the Van Morrison Limited Edition Moondance CD set ? How does it sound ? Is the Hi res a big step up? The std. CD is apparently remastered, again any advantage over original pressing ? Cheers.
ZEN MISTER Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I have had it for a while now. The mastering is by Elliot Scheiner, hence excellent. I think it is for obsessives more than a casual listener. There are three discs of session takes, alternate takes, and mixes. There are also a few mono mixes. The actual album appears as both a CD and a Bluray in 192kHz/ 24 bit. These are examples of how vintage material can and should be done, all the time. Get it while it is still in print, I suggest. The only downside is the binding on the pack tends to come adrift. ZM.

Are the unreleased versions worth itAre they much different to the released versions By the way what about a record review of Alejandro Escovedo A lot of people here would like it if they could be convinced to listen

ZEN MISTER Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Re the alternate takes. If you have the album in your D.N.A. already , the works in progress are fascinating, but also an insight into how Van pursues the sound in his head. Some takes are so close in essence to the final version, it just shows how particular he was. It is worth noting that Van was not happy to have this released, stroppy old bugger he is. It would be worth getting from o/s if the black and yellow trader does not intend getting more. Re Mr. Escovido- funnily enough I have been on an all things Alejandro kick in the past few weeks. I have thought of doing something on him, but as I have to work on the ipad, I really have to be in the mood to sit and work on the thing. Still, nice suggestion. Will give it some thought. ZM.
