hired goon Posted April 14 Posted April 14 (edited) Spinning a few rekkids wot I got at the local rekkid fair this weekend. These were from the $5 bins but I haggled a bit. Art Pepper - Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section -- 1957 UK press, very noice, sounds great Art Pepper - Early Art -- 1970s 2xLP compilation on Blue Note. Mono recordings from the mid 1950s. Very noice. Getz/Gilberto - Oz pressing on MGM. My US pressing is a bit noisier, noice to have a noicer copy. Gil Evans - Priestess -- idano, kinda Gil Goes Prog on this one. Nat King Cole - After Midnight -- I have an original US mono pressing that is noisy as bro (it was only $0.75) and have been searching the bins for ages for another. No luck, Aussies seemed to prefer the later schmaltzy stuff to the earlier jazzy trio stuff. But I picked up two copies here: another US Capital mono, and an Aussie World Record Club stereo. Still a bit noisy in parts, maybe a clean is required, or maybe the hunt for an elusive quiet copy continues. Phineas Newborn Jr - Here Is Phineas -- looks like an early Oz press on London Records. Noisy as bro but I could not resist adding some Phineas to me collection. --Geoff Edited April 15 by hired goon 6

hired goon Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Michel Legrand - Legrand Jazz -- another of my $5 pickups from the weekend, I knew nothing about this record but it features Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers, Hank Jones, Donald Byrd, and more so figured it would be worth a punt. It's a lively collection of standards with brash arrangements, and this original 1958 Columbia 6-eye mono pressing sounds great. Noice! --Geoff 3
hired goon Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Duke Ellington, Charlie Mingus, Max Roach - Money Jungle -- a CD wot I rescued from the $1 bins yesterday. 1962 session, original album was only 30 mins but there's some extras here to bump up the playing time. And the playing is amazing: a kinda discordant blues stride jazz. Noice. --Geoff 4 1
