I just received some XRCD's from elusivedisc.com including Sonny Rollins - In Japan, Carmen Lundy - Old Devil Moon, Jazz At The Pawnshop, Philippe Saisse Acoustique Trio & Kelly Sae.

That's given me something to look forward to tonight.

I'll be interested to hear your impression of Jazz at the PS. I have TT!'s copy on SACD but must comment that the redbook layer sounds a bit better. Hope they did a better job on the mix on the XRCD.

Yes 4hecks. I thought I left you and Mr Thiing with clear instructions in my absence to introduce random sillieness and multiple Salmas at regular intervals :D Never fear, time to stir up these serious sods .....:D

You have changed in my absence. I hardly recognised you....

Thanks Mick. I am somewhat surprised with your incredible knowledge and passion for rock and roll that you also crossover into jazz. I may go and search the classical (currently playing) to see how far yor interest extends.. :D

Hi again

You mean you don't remember this?

Hi

I think that since the thread is 'Jazz lives' we should maybe broaden out from sax players - but not before I've dropped a few of my favourites into the mix

1.Gerry Mulligan on baritone sax on Mulligan meets Monk

2. Wayne Shorter's solo on Gee Baby on the Art Blakey Impulse! album, and his soloing with Lee Morgan on Alamode and other tracks.

3. Oliver Nelson and Eric Dolphy on Blues and the Abstract Truth

4. Just about anything by Harold Land on the Curtis Counce records

5. Any thing by Stan Getz but especially with Bob Brookmeyer

7. Anything by Paul Desmond with Jim Hall (and maybe even with Dave Brubeck!!)

6. The interplay between Kirk Whalum and Boney James on Watermelon Man on the Casino Lights DVD.

I'll probably think of more after I post this, but they're a few I've played lately.

Cheers

Mick[/b]

Thanks Mick. I have a lot of catching up to do, if I am gonna turn into a full fledged sax maniac....

I'm shocked and disappointed that you're not yet fully fledged!!!

Mick,

Alas, for me, jazz is a bit like vegetables are to kids. I know it's good, but most of them I am unable to appreciate and find hard work to digest. There are the occasional morsels which do, however, instantly delight my palate. I have promoted John Coltrane to the play regularly stack of my CD collection.

I must try some of those vegetables that you have recommended...:D

OK. Just finished some vegies. Quite liked these ones...

XRCD2 - excellent sound quality (for CD) and a great performance from Mr Coltrane.

Eden Atwood-

This is always

er, Waricle, I just finished playing...

Kinda spooky..

I have never heard of this girl. This was my first listen and the CD was a XRCD24 recording, the quality of which is simply stunning. Seriously, this is probably the best sound I have ever heard from a my CD player. If only all CD's sounded this good. The performance was good, the recording, as I have said, is positively stunning.

I have listened to less and less music over the last 10 years. I blame CD. I have no problem with vinyl - far less tiring to my ears. If all CD's were reproduced this well, I probably would not have tired of the medium.

Thoroughly recommended.(Particularly if you want to see what CD is capable of)

I wish you guys would stop promoting this XRCD. I already have it on RBCD and like it and I don't want to spend money on duplicating CD's. These regular posts are just making it difficult.

To wax biblical, GET THEE BEHIND ME SATAN :)

Raptor fades into the background humming the old hymn "Yield not to temptation for yielding is sin. Fight manfully onward..................."

Miles Davis: "In A Silent Way"

Sonny Rollins: "Saxophone Collossus"

all on vinyl and three of my fave jazz albums.

G'day,

Miles Davis - "A Tribute To Jack Johnson" -- prolly more rock and/or roll than jazz, but it has snippets of "In A Silent Way" interspersed among the grooves.

Hi

Ah - John McLaughlin does it for me every time - you've inspired me to go get out out my Escalator Over the Hill vinyl for another listen

And anybody for some Mose Allison? I've only got 1 cd (Lessons in Living) of his that is not great, but can't wait to get out my old treasures on vinyl. I must have about 7-10 albums (without checking)..... Your mind is on Vacation (amongst others) will be back on board very soon.
