Sir Triode
LOL @ niss_man But most of the kits these days are not tube ones unfortunately.

Gruffnutz
Built one many years ago. The sound of it freaked my partner out badly so I got rid of it... ...many years later we're still together; and I'm feeling the need to build another.
Sir Triode
This one is pretty cool - out in April.
Luc
Jerry Lewis plays an alien visiting Earth in a movie called surprisingly enough: 'Visit To A Small Planet' and his character's name is Kreton...i.e. cretin. But Kreee-ton is still a pretty clever way in late fifties early sixties to slip one past a lot of observers, of doing a play on a word, a name. And that bon vivant and American man of letters who wrote the screenplay, Bob Carr's late erudite friend and American par excellence Gore Vidal did a fantastic job there; Homosexual,left-wing, privileged up bringing, Democrat, exceptional historical and contemporary scholar, wit and provocateur. Fantastic bit of fifth columnist skulduggery slipped into the recent and occasionally reviled MaCarthyist Hollywood of the period. Just thought you might need to know that little bit of trivia if your ever watching that rather dated film...it comes to life if you know it's background a bit.
Guest
Listen to for inspiration. The Good Guys commercials have forever ruined that tune. Not that I was really ever a huge fan of it anyway. There's a bunch of vids on YouTube of a couple of guys doing covers of various music using a drum machine, a theremin and guitar. The theremin usually replaces the vocals. Very cool. Especially one covering Crazy by Gnarls Barkley. Edited March 29, 2014 by Dirty_vinylpusher
Krispy Audio
I've never heard of this until now. Looks really interesting - my kids would love it too I reckon.

Owen Y
Of course there is the charming Dorit Chrysler, modern-day Theremin performer.... Not to mention Leon Theremin himself, back in the '20s I'm guessing... Guest
I think it's one of the most awesome instruments ever created as it's purely based on waving your hands in the air. I've never even seen one in real life, or heard one. I couldn't care less if the kits are "tube" or not. Just feel a need to stand and make weird 60's sci-fi movie alien noises in my music room Maybe use some of the sounds for my own music. Still hoping that someone can recommend a kit though. Stevesie
I built the 145 theremin(i think!) from this site http://www.theremin.us/ years ago. It sounded really good - useable for recording/live performance. Probably to much for a beginner but he has some simpler designs.
ThirdDrawerDown
Here's an instrument called a circon that is almost a guided theremin. http://www.wendycarlos.com/circon.html I have made enquiries about the giant-sized theremin here in Melbourne that you create music with not by waving your hands but by walking around and under and inside it. Edited to add letter from Moog. Edited July 20, 2014 by ThirdDrawerDown
Damhooligan
Goldfrapp also stroked one on many occasions, live and on record. Yes, was going to mention her too.. I have seen her use it live, she is so sexy when she is playing it....
