Guest
Not sure where to put this thread so I'll stick it here. Some things I built in the name of music and entertainment. Wallmounted CD rack Record stand: Charging station for iPhone/iPad/other. The transformers are hidden inside with just the leads sticking out and only one cable going in. Saves a lot of time spent looking for leads. Very basic phone/pad speaker setup. I had some ply left over from making hte charging station and stuck a couple of old speakers on it with a line in lead. Good for watching videos on the iPad or camping etc.
Guest
Entertainment unit. God, my shed was so empty back then... Haha. That old TV which crapped itself 4 months after warranty ran out. Speakers have also been replaced since and shelves filled with DVDs...
Guest
And something very simple but useful. Plug, lead, switch and socket. I use this all the time when testing gear I'm not sure about. Easy to quickly swith on and off. And I can hook bare wires up to the connectors if there's no plug. vinilink
Very clever & cool stuff indeed. I will try to do similar things with left over odd timber bits. Many similar units from shops are made out of cheap chipboard that don't last long.
Guest
Yeh like I said in that other thread. Off the shelf or out of the box never seems to suit me, so gotta make my own Guess I'm lucky that I'm reasonably capable in the DIY department and have a good assortment of tools to do the jobs with. And time to do it. The record stand was built using mostly scrap timber from a building site, some old bed slats and if memory serves, the "hoops" were from an old stero cabinet which had vinyl storage down the bottom. The felt was just an offcut piece from Spotlight or somewhere similar. Entertainment unit was purpose built for that space. And over engineered to the max. You could park a small car on top of it. Can sort of see it in the pic that the section of the wall where it sits is recessed. I reckon the front room of this ole house has been added on and extended about 3 times just by looking at where the different floor levels are. Probably was a small porch or verandah which got built in, then another bit added on, built in etc etc. I'll keep digging for photos as there's more to show and tell. Guest
cheap chipboard*spits on the floor and throws salt over the shoulder*I. Cannot. Stand. That. Stuff. Up here in the tropics it never lasts due to the humidity and always starts to sag, warp and twist after a while. And then the laminate starts to bubble. Nah. Gimme a piece of good old hardwood or pine any day. Edited March 28, 2014 by Dirty_vinylpusher
Sir Triode
Hate chipboard too. MDF or Plywood if a composite is required.

Guest
Haha I just noticed something. In the pic of the record stand under construction is the stereo on the floor which about 6 years donated its speakers to the purple creation pictured further down that same post. I always take pictures of every stage of everything I build as it comes in handy when trying to remember how I did "that thing" 8 years ago. And every now and again funny little moments like this one pop up.

betocool
Cool stuff, especially the record stands... I need something like that in the (near) future. I did a similar thing for the CD cases and sort of spread them around the walls in the living room. It looks pretty cool, though ours were shorter. Guest
Thanks mate I like being able to flick through my vinyl. Probably not the best way to store them when it comes to dust though. Makes it easier for visitors to have a quick look through as well when they come over and go "OMG LOOK AT ALL THE RECORDS YOU HAVE!!!" I don't really have THAT many but compared to most of my friends I'm a vinyl store haha. The CD racks work well. Not that they get played a lot these days but at least they're at eye level(-ish) and easy to look at. And you can put stuff on top of the shelf as well. I usually rotate about half a dozen nice vinyls on there every couple of months. Edited April 9, 2014 by Dirty_vinylpusher
