gz76
If you're near Kutchan (you'll probably pass through the area), I can highly recommend this place for some of the best food in the area served by a true master: https://goo.gl/maps/fDTZp It's the ground floor of the corner building (the one with the tiles and the orange stripe). I think it's called Sato from memory. Edited March 26, 2014 by gz76

On our next trip to Japan, I will try to convince her.
mickj1
Hi we were there on a tour last October - so had autumn ladscapes, but the whole Shimamui coastline and Shakotan Peninsula are pretty good - as are the Niseko Mts, Shinsen marsh and Mt Usu area. You should see lots of wildlife too, if you're interested. Here's a few pics: Otaru canal Shakotane Peninsula Shakotane peninsula Sika Red-crowned cranes View from Mt Usu cable car Cheers Mick Edited April 27, 2014 by mickj1
vinilink
Mick, thanks for the suggestions and great photos by the way! We will definitely check out the places even though it will be a kind of spring for Hokkaido when we visit in early June I believe. Next time, we will try to make an Autumn trip there.
