BTam
When I connect chordette qute to redgum amplifier, I hear the humming noise in speaker. When I connect qute to another amplifier: no noise. When I repeat it with a blu ray player to redgum, noise. To another: no noise. At Redgum area I have many used and unused power cables, bi wire speaker cables, subwoofer neutrix cable. When I connect cdplayer to redgum: no noise. Can anyone shed some light for me? is it ground loop effect? how to solve this problem? I unplug other cables, just power redgum cable, connect interconnect with qute (qute is not powered on), still the humming noise. This drives me crazy. andyr
I would say, yes, you have a ground loop. Different components are earthed differently and sometimes, a particular combination just doesn't "work". It would seem that the qute has a particular earthing set-up which your redgum amp doesn't like. As you said: When I connect qute to another amplifier: no noise. Just power redgum cable, connect interconnect with qute (qute is not powered on), still the humming noise. So: If you like your redgum amp ... get another component that delivers the same function as the qute. If you like your qute ... get another amp. Or, get a tech - like, say ZB here - to examine the qute and understand what its earthing arrangement is. Good luck, Andy
BTam
Thanks Andy. I found out further: qute + redgum + Squeezebox Touch + Coaxial: no problem. qute + amp+ laptop+USB: noise. So the usb/laptop is the culprit. What can I do? forget laptop? just use SBT?
nofixedaddress
Run the laptop on battery? Does that help? NFA
BTam
Thanks for your advice NFA. I tried that, no difference. I removed laptop from docking station: no difference. Now I'm thinking (or sinking) about buying a USB Ground Isolator http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Olimex-USB-ISO-Full-speed-USB-isolator-1000VDC-audio-dac-noise-ground-earth-loop-/271418726563?pt=AU_Home_Personal_Security&hash=item3f31d118a3#ht_743wt_1358 Has anyone used this before? nofixedaddress
It is a common issue among PC users - try posting in the streaming section as the guys there will know how to stop the issue. You might be missing some of the tech guys in this section. NFA
davewantsmoore
I unplug other cables, just power redgum cable, connect interconnect with qute (qute is not powered on), still the humming noise. This drives me crazy. What you are doing (isolating the problem by removing everything and connecting things together slowly) is the correct way to troubleshoot. ... but I'm not sure I follow the above. Can you be very specific?!
BTam
Replying to the above: I disconnected everything, reconnected one by one separatedly or combined any combination, none gave the noise except amp+ Qute (RCA) + Laptop (USB). I rebooted laptop which reduced the noise down. I took NFA advice and re-posted in Streaming, please go there for further discussions, thanks very much everyone. I really appreciate your help.
