Brendo09 Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 (edited) This is the view from the dining table. There isn't much better placement for the speakers. They're about a foot from the rear wall, and maybe four feet from the sides. I moved them about a number of times. The business end is tucked away in the left hand pantry. An old laptop $350 new, there's a hard drive attached to it with 380gb of flac tunes on it, and I run Spotify and foobar of it. They goes into a Aune T1 dac / headphone amp. That's gotta a tube buffer stage in the dac, currently with a Tesla ecc88 in it (I think). From there it goes into a Cambridge A1. 20 watts is plenty for what I use it for. There's a Cambridge D500se cd player under that, but it rarely gets used. Finally I can have tunes in the background, let everyone listen, and still slam a whole album if the time and opportunity arises. Edited March 23, 2014 by Brendo09 1
Briz Vegas Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 See, it starts out like this, then before you know it the spare room has 2 ceiling mounted 15 inch sub woofers installed in the roof cavity and your one tube has evolved into 13. Enjoy your tunes. Getting your amp off your CD player would be a good idea however. I know heat mostly rises and all but it also has a transformer that vibrates. Sonically it may not make a significant difference but good habits should start early. 1
SteveC Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Well done. I could just imagine the look on my wifes face if she opened the pantry and there was a shelf full of stereo gear in it! I imagine she would calmly take it out, put it in the oven and cook it! Edited April 3, 2014 by SteveC 2
Brendo09 Posted April 3, 2014 Author Posted April 3, 2014 Well done. I could just imagine the look on my wifes face if she opened the pantry and there was a shelf full of stereo gear in it! I imagine she would calmly take it out, put it in the oven and cook it! It took a good deal of careful negotiations and a bit of compensation to get the accommodation documents signed, but we got there. She's actually even used it once or twice to stream ABC country. Winning! (except for the ABC country part...)
Guest Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) Gee, they're awful photos aren't they! At a glance I didn't realise that they were your photos, your post, and thought "My god, what a rude comment!" Edited April 3, 2014 by Dirty_vinylpusher
