Need suggestions/help wiring AV in new house

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am in the process of building a house, and before I get to the framing stage I want to have worked out what cabling I need to do in order to be able to Connect my PC video card (HDMI out) to my 3 TV's, so I can watch whatever is on my PC from my 3 TV's. I have HDMI Out on my PC.

Has anyone got a solution for this? Is there a 3 way splitter that has 1 HDMI input and 3 HDMI outputs that can all run at once?

Things to note:

--the TV unit has a smart TV and surround sound system

--the outdoor TV is a regular LCD TV with standard inputs. But for this I am thinking of mounting 2 x standalone speakers under our alfresco area, but I am worried that the audio out on my PC will not be powerful enough to power these speakers.

--the TV in Bed 1 is also a regular LCD stand alone TV.

Anyone out there doing something similar?

Please see here for a floor plan of my place...

Hmm

HDMI splitters exist in varying quality and price

For the length of Cable I'd be looking at HDMI over ethernet adapters

Not sure why you wouldn't use Apple TV/WD TV/many other DNLA type boxes to achieve the same thing cheaper and just run ethernet to the various locations.

Kogan do a USB smart TV dongle which can be used to access any content on a shared source via DLNA. essentially you can load your content onto a NAS and then access it from any compliant device from anywhere in the house (be it wifi or ethernet).

Late reply but figured I would add my 2 cents as I'm also in the process of building a house, I have just finished doing the internal wiring for the dedicated home theatre and it was actually a lot of fun :P.

For your setup though I wouldn't go with HDMI to all those locations, to me running HDMI in wall only makes sense for a projector or mounted TV connecting to equipment close by or in the next room.

For your situation I would think that ethernet would be the way to go (you should have this regardless) and just have your content available on the network.

media players are quite cheep these days and investing in a NAS to store your data would mean you don't have to have a PC on all the time, it is also more reliable that a PC running a non server OS.

While you have the chance though it is a great idea to run what cables you can, after the electrician has done his part and before the plasterboard goes up. Plenty of ethernet if you haven't already got this organised through the builder and speaker wire so you can have surrounds for some of those TV's. I also ran some 25mm conduit in my home theatre though I don't know why yet..
