Jackal008
Any advice on the best bookshelf speakers? Space and living room size is limited so towers aren't an option. I've been looking at the PSB Synchrony One B's. Interested to see what other members would recommend. Note, currently running a NAD C356BEE but am considering upgrading pending speaker choice. Turntable is Funk Firm LSD, Zu Audio DL103 cart with Graham Slee Reflex M and EXP Elevator pre amp stage. Thanks in advance.

henry218
look for compact 3way in bookshelf/stand mount like KEF, i have not heard them, but the design approach is the best for small size speakers.
Luc
The Quad 11L Classics in the FS section wouldn't be bad either.

Saxon Hall
As previously pointed out, it depends on your budget. Mike Lenehan makes some mighty speakers but no point to you if your budget does not stretch that far.
Guest Hensa
Your budget and whether or not you would entertain second hand are important considerations as is music genre and room dimensions. You say that the room is too small for floorstanders so I assume the bookshelf speakers will be sitting on a shelf or cabinet (on stands they occupy the same real estate as floorstanders). Does this mean they will be close to wall behind them? This may mean looking at sealed enclosures or at least front ported types. So many options at every price point, so you need to help us out. I'm currently listening to a pair of Classic 1.7 speakers by The Audio Group (nothing on the net about them but made by an Aussie outfit) and they are truly exceptional. I picked these up second hand and would highly recommend you consider pre-owned as an option. Edited March 22, 2014 by Hensa

Jackal008
Pre-owned is an option for me. Around the $3k mark is feasible. Thanks so far.

pete_mac
The Lenehan ML1 Reference speakers currently for sale in the classifieds are pretty damn great for the dollars. Edited March 22, 2014 by pete_mac
Guest Hensa
Any comment about where the speakers will be sited such as shelf mounted, standmounted and how close to the walls? These are very important considerations as even the $50K speakers above may sound less than stellar if not positioned to capitalise on their design. Also, what type of music do you listen to? Some speakers do rock better than they manage classical or jazz.Without the above information it's a bit of a lottery but brands like Kef, Paradigm and Proac all make superb bookshelf speakers that would fall under budget. Best bet is to take your music and audition as many as you can with similar source and amplification to your own. Thanks so far. while there are all sorts of options out there. my suggestion would be to head out see what can experinece with your amp. speaker choice really can come down to personal pref. jdh500
You can always make me an offer on my as new KEF XQ20 and matching KEF speaker stands. Other speakers for your budget could include used Paradigm S4 or used B&W 805s. http://kef.com/html/gb/showroom/hi-fi_series/xq_series/fact_sheet/bookshelf/xq20/index.html JDH Edited March 22, 2014 by jdh500

I bought a pair of these recently and they are sublime. As I said to Jimsan when he asked me about them after the purchase from Tivoli, I said they were cultured, with attitude when required. They are just so damn listenable. They will tell you a lot about your source and amplification though. Highly and completely recommended.
mackeb
KEF LS50? Secondhand for cheap maybe Krix Brix? May tide you over while you save the 50k for the TADs.
Chill3
Jack why not towers ? take up same space as bookshelves on stands Or are you looking to locate the speakers close to the wall or on shelves ? How you wish to locate the speakers is the most important thing, many small speakers are actually space hogs as they like to be in free space
