Guest Mr Thorens
Just a note about an experience I had yesterday. And something to watch out for if you're buying online. A new member offering me a piece of equipment based on my WTB, at seemingly a very good price. The danger signs were: the pictures were downloaded from a recent sold eBay listing of that exact same item, he wanted payment by direct money transfer to overseas bank account or Moneygram (no paypal), claimed he was a US citizen living in the UK, claimed he was another person and gave references to himself (using another person's identity) on other forums and a personal website, poor English language and punctuation compared to the real person's posting on other forum. So just to be wary - I asked for a paypal account to pay, and a photo of himself holding the item in question. He then disappeared. I think I saved myself losing quite a bit of money on a scammer. PKay
It just goes to show that PayPal can be worth the fees. I also like to call the person before I pay across funds through pay pal or visa. Google street view can also be a good tool.

wikeeboy
Yep he tried it on me as well. Looked at my WTB ad then said he had one to sell. All the usual scam alerts went off. Pretty easy to pick but still upsetting that vermin like that may catch the unsuspecting off guard. Marc was lightning quick to remove the scammer from SNA. Cafad
I've had two similar experiences, in both cases I reported the PMs to the mods without replying to them and in both cases the perpetrators were booted on the same day. In one case within minutes, I was pretty impressed with the "mod service" on that one.
