ENIGMA
Hi does any one here have or restore vintage radios? I have a few around the place both working and non working. My best are two console radios, an AWA Fisk in perfect working order and a Stromberg Carlson not currently working. The Stromberg Carlson has a perfect cabinet but the chassis didn't work and missing speaker. After 14 years I now have found two more chassis, one working with a speaker and one not working needing work. I need to replace some aged looking caps on the working one and from that one, learn how to fix the other one as the caps in that are in terrible physical condition. The third chassis is in terrible condition but it as spare tubes to offer and other bits. I'm thinking of stripping this one completely to bare metal one day and painting it like new. The others will keep their petina and original labels/ writing. I'll post some pics when I get around to it. Apart from eBay & net, anyone in Melbourne fiddle and have bits for these things? ZEN MISTER
There used to be a vintage radio store in Malvern, Chapel Street area. Failing that, the Coolstores in Tyabb have a few radio dealers. Always worth a look. ZM.

Thanks, that store was called Resurrection Radio, it has been sold about two or three times since it was in chapel St. I haven't been to Tyabb for a while, will have to check it out. LogicprObe
There is a regular column about these things in Silicon Chip Magazine. It also lists clubs that specialise in these.

I never did though

mondie
probably is. I think it was the workmanship of RR that was drawing me in knowing it was a quality restored item with decades of 'new life' in it
LogicprObe
They do it for love.............not for gain. I feel for them when some hipster buys it, only to throw it in the bin 10 years later.

LogicprObe
Lovely! I have one similar with the flat dial and no fluting. Was just the cabinet with the speaker. I've restored the cab as best I could, given the laminate was slpintered in places and lifting in others..........doesn't look too bad. I need the time to fashion a new dial......I have a few old radio chassis only things around I'm sure I can get to do the job. So, it will still be valves but nowhere near original like that beauty!
