Krispy Audio Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Bang a roof on it and you're done! The rock walls would make for nature's own diffusers
Monty Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Struth! You're not mucking about there. Good luck with the build.
Steam Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 If the system you install is as heavy duty as the walls this could be seriously interesting. It could also do duty as a nuclear fall out shelter.
Zammo Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 Bang a roof on it and you're done! The rock walls would make for nature's own diffusers Silty sand over hard silty clay fortunately (or the site works costs would have tripled!), so the blockwork walls a necessity. Will be topped by a bondek slab.
Zammo Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) If the system you install is as heavy duty as the walls this could be seriously interesting. It could also do duty as a nuclear fall out shelter. Three blockwork walls, slab reinforced concrete, all surrounded by metres of earth, and reinforced concrete ceiling. The wall leading out of the cave will be quietwave with a studiozone 48 acoustic door. Managing bass will be a major issue. Edited March 19, 2014 by Zammo 1
Krispy Audio Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 Looks unreal. I aspire to build a similar room one day! What will your room dimensions end up being?
Zammo Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 Looks unreal. I aspire to build a similar room one day! What will your room dimensions end up being? 8m long, 5m wide. Slab has two levels with front 5m of room 3.3m high, back 3m at 3m high. Wife insisted we also build a house around the cave, so bedrooms bathrooms blah blah...not sure what else. 6
Krispy Audio Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 She'll probably want some kind of garden and whatnot. Sheesh.
Zammo Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 Block work almost complete. Waterproof, backfill, then bondek slab on top. Not too much action in the cave after that until towards end of build. Feels surprisingly small in there despite the 5 by 8 meter dimensions. 5
Telecine Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 It will no doubt feel quite large when it is finished.
betty boop Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 man cave…bunker perhaps good work ! looking forward to seeing how things turn out
Zammo Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 Will definitely be a good place to hang out come the apocalypse. Nuclear and zombie proof.....and acoustically well treated of course!
Kaynin Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Feels surprisingly small in there despite the 5 by 8 meter dimension Funny how the feel of a room changes so much during each stage. Slab stage it feels large, walls go up it feels small, fit out occurs and it's large again!

Kaynin Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Can't wait to see the fit out and what you put in there...
Zammo Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 Can't wait to see the fit out and what you put in there... Looking forward to it myself!
Underwater Explorer Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Very very nice! Enjoy THAT room and post the updates
Zammo Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 Very very nice! Enjoy THAT room and post the updates Thanks. Will do.
Concept Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Yes can't wait to see more down the track. You can always post your system setup ideas in the meantime, unless it is a secret of course.
Zammo Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 No secret mate, just haven't locked down exact models. Two channel will be active speakers from SGR (? MT series), with DAC duties from MSB. SGR will also supply subs and surround speakers - no idea in what form yet, but probably a step down from the mains. Probably get one of the newer JVC models for projection with a 130" CinemaScope fixed screen. Integra pre-pro should round things off.

It's 'just another brick in the wall' - keep the pics coming, this is going to be fun to watch the cave develop.
