Onkyo PR-SC5509 9.2 Ch 3D THX Ultra2 Plus A/V Processor/ Preamplifier - Black

Reason for selling: Downgrading to AVR, need the cash.
Item location: Tweed shire/Gold coast
Possible swap: for JTR speakers
Price: $2500 (negotiable)
RRP: $3500-4000
Will post: Anywhere in Australia (Comes with box and foam inserts). Courier is the only option, the box is too big for Auspost.
Item Condition: This unit is in perfect cosmetic and working condition except one HDMI output is not working.

However the other remaining HDMI output works flawlessly and passes Video and Audio  perfectly.

This has been quoted at $100 to repair, it is a simple replacement of the 100uf capacitors on the HDMI board (8 in total), a well known problem with the Onkyo's and well documented on other forums (that I can't mention here, you will need to do a google search).

I have always been a fan of Onkyo gear, this is a beauty but tell me does this baby get very hot, ( and I don't mean just looking at it. )

I've had a couple of Onkyo 6 series amps and yes, they run bloody hot so need a bit of space around them... otherwise, nothing to complain about. Great performers and, in my experience, very reliable.

No mention of power output though...

Cheers

Because this Onkyo is only a Pre/Processor not an AV receiver ?

I have this preamp.

It uses about 90W when running and does run hot and as mentioned above and requires good ventilation.

Interestingly if you use the HDMI through, sleep functions or IP control, the preamp does not use just standby power but about 27-70W depending on what you're doing. It took me a while to work out why it was warm, even when it was 'switched off'.

Will you be getting it fixed prior to shipping or can you recommend a place for us? I am just wary as the last time i got my amp fixed, they charged me 180$ and they just cleaned the output stage and put some extra solder onto a couple of spots where the solder was wearing thin. They dont really know why it wasnt working but it was working again after they did that.

i'm really surprised it gets hot with no amplifier stage....  I have an onkyo AVR which has about 5mm clearance above it and it's never gotten hot once!

Bit short on cash and time at the moment, haven't had the time to do it. Selling as is, willing to drop $200 off the price to cover your HDMI repairs.

ps. Lonewolf you bought my crowson gear, I have a different username than the other forum.

Yes I was surprised also Juicester. I don't really mind though as my rack is well ventilated. The hottest component in my rack is not my amps but my music server of all things!
