Hi All, I dont post much these days but just had to vent after recent events - I've just moved the family back to Melbourne (from Adelaide, yay :) ) and our move was performed by a large international company.

Anyhoo they packed up my Krix HT Speakers (rrp ~$9.5k) and wrapped the main ones (Neuphonix, Epicentrix & Seismix 5) in blankets but I didnt see them put my Equinox Bookshelves in a box unprotected with my kids toys.

Apparently our house gear was put in storage for 2 months while we looked for a long term Rental property and they removed all of our gear from the containers and unloaded them into some "storage units" at their depot here in Melbourne. While doing this they appear to have removed the blankets from from the speakers.

So when they start unloading the contents into my house on Saturday I note with horror that my speakers are all naked ..... and scratched, and gouged and dented. Then I find my equinox speaker in the bottom of a box with my kids toys and the tops are all scratched up by metal parts on a babies jolly jumper!!!

My lovely Krix speakers now have their stunning Atlantic Jarrah timber completely defaced ... so that  is why im not a happy boy right now!!

Insurance better cover me getting new speakers or I'm going to lose it!!!

I would be really pissed off too.

Hopefully insurance will cover repairs or replacements.

Ouch. That's just appalling. I'd be livid too.

I hope the moving company did a good job of inventory for insurance purposes and your claim goes smoothly.

Very disappointing but unfortunately not surprising. I work in a warehouse and I see a lot of different couriers and delivery people come in and out. Some give a **** and some do not. Purely the luck of the draw. After it leaves your sight you are at the mercy of a long chain of people. Only one person who hates their job and does not give a stuff will cancel out everyone else's best intentions.

I hope things work out for you in the end.

I would love to know how those blankets came off and why.

And it's in the public interest to tell us the company?

Blankets are meant as a temporary protection for transporting goods safely. Beyond that, you're on your own. Sorry to sound dismissive, but you really should have made sure your goods were wrapped securely, well before the move. Never blindly trust monkeys with your gear.

If it were me, I would have wrapped or boxed my gear personally, prior to pickup. Alternatively, the gear could have been prepared by a separate packing contractor. Put this one down to experience.

Really sorry to hear about your loss :(

I moved house last year, barely 10 mins drive from the old place, but I very carefully took my ML2s to somewhere else for safekeeping a couple of weeks before the move. Didn't even want them in the house during all that stuffing around, let alone in the hands of burly blokes in a hurry.

Unfortunately I didn't expect to be moving, let alone moving states, so I didn't keep boxes.

I won't be making that mistake again.

Btw it was Grace who did the move which cost almost as much as the Speakers!

An an FYI, some manufacturers will sell you just the boxes along with all packaging if you ever throw them out but need them for such an occasion. Not cheap for what it is, but could save grief down the track.

Any time I have moved house I have personally packed all my valuables (ie: hifi) into boxes (original ones where possible) and moved them myself on my own car. Never have been trusting of guys of the ilk that have done what they did to your once lovely speakers. If storage was required I'd find a family member or close friend willing to hold my boxes of gear.

Good luck with the insurance claim. I hope it all works out in your favour.

You've got to remember that these guys are low paid workers, often casuals and often can't get any other work.

A lot are ex crims.........or maybe not.........under another name.

Bugger that is sorry news. Please keep us informed about the success of the insurance claim. It was bad luck I think but that doesn't make it any easier. A reminder to us all to keep original packaging and to pack gear ourselves. Btw some removal it's will not insure unless they pack, or, you have to take out Independant insurance

dj a real pity, yep have moved few times when used to rent, and yeah always moved my speakers myself. in back of the car wrapped up or boxed. I once by mistake let a moving company move our large crt tv we used to have back then. and guess what the stupid !diots put the tv face own. oh year with a blanket to protect the tube. no matter the floor of the truck was checker plate ! ofcourse badly scratched ! but with a lot of polishing by me the scrathes fortunately came out.

re grace. get right onto them. if damaged in the move they are responsible and they do actually come through. dont expect them to replace the speakers. they will likely fix them...but dont expect if not like new. I know fellow colleague moving back from perth. and they completely ruined his lovely shiny harley and nearly wrecked their caravan. both were fixed back like new no questions asked...just the pain of going through the process !

Sympathy isn't one of your strong points, is it?
