gz76 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 As one of my all-time favourite bands, I find it disenchanting that Ween get very little mention around these parts. What's not to love about them? Whether you're a musician, a larrikin, a drunk, or just someone who loves a well written, toe-tapping song, there's something in their extensive catalogue for everyone. Anyone who hasn't heard of Ween owes it to themselves to go buy or stream something of theirs right now. For those of you who are well versed in the, er, verse of Ween, then join the discussion below.
Demondes Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) Hmm, can't put my finger on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SW7vemumD14 warning involves long pointy knives and out of sync backup dancers Edited March 4, 2014 by Demondes 1
Soundscape Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 My favourite Weener. A bit darker and more brooding than their other albums. Apparently Gener was coming through some addictions at this point. Some excellent song-craft and unashamed homage on this one.
tubularbells Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Great band and some of it is very well recorded too. I actually got to speak to Gene and Dean when they did an in store at Gaslight Records in Melbourne (which sadly is now no more) when promoting The Mollusk and I mentioned how great there recordings sounded (especially Chocolate and Cheese) and they said they took great care with there later recordings to get it to sound "right". Funny dudes as well as they both drew all over my CD I purchased after signing it laughing away at each other until security hurried me along to enable them to serve others but it was a great experience though. Sadly I never got to see them live...

Thing I forgot to mention what I really like about the band is there diversity. Take this album for example, you can get away with playing Among His Tribe, Tried and True & I Dont Want It to almost anyone and they will enjoy it yet on the other hand you have gems like The F**ked Jam and So Many People In the Neighborhood to keep it interesting.....great stuff. Pieface Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I think the various posts, avatars and signatures of the current respondents explains why Ween discussion seems sadly lacking in polite conversation  I really like The Mollusk album and perched in the middle of all that sea-shanty mayhem is a gem of a break-up song.
houdinifangs Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I've seen them x2 - awesome, first time with Andrew Weiss on bass was awesome, sound, going down. 2nd was the country tour with the Nashville guys, also good, but Andrew Weiss was the budiness.
Soundscape Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Weiss is the man, all about that bass. Would have been rad to see that gig.
