kelossus Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) I have been looking at a few items from this website but can't seem to find much info on the company itself. They seem to be based in Darwin and have been replying to my inquiries via email. They seem to have something to do with RC components but also have a healthy stock of hi end audio gear. Has anyone actually purchased from this website? No paypal just bank transfer which has me a little worried. http://arviera.com/index.php Edited March 2, 2014 by kelossus
Krispy Audio Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 They have a street address, might be worth doing a Google Maps on it to see. Seems strange to have high end gear on a radio-controlled website though. The other thing that strikes me strange with a cursory glance is that they're advertising a new pair of Atohm GT2 speakers but are not an authorised retailer for that brand so I would certainly exercise caution.
Krispy Audio Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Hold the phone, they have an Esoteric P-02 for sale, new, for $9,800. The RRP is $21,000 and they most certainly are not an authorised reseller! I would be extremely cautious!!
kelossus Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 Yeah I am proceeding with caution, they are supplying me alternate pictures to the ones on the site. Leads me to believe they do actually have the physical item. Unfortunately you can't get a street view on google maps but it appears to be a large industrial estate. Numerous warehouses and a concrete plant. Further emails reveal all items are in Darwin but he is opening a shop in Bali. Seems sketchy as hell, anyone in Darwin wanna go check it out
Sir Triode Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 They could be selling parallel imports from Asia. If you pay via Paypal, you can always return the items if they are not as advertised.

Krispy Audio Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Does the low price mean they are likely knock offs? No idea but let me put it this way, I wouldn't be buying from them in a hurry. You most certainly wouldn't get any local warranty support if you bought from a non-authorised dealer so when something's less than half price, alarm bells should be going off. Parallel imports are generally cheaper, but not 47% of RRP as per my example!
Cafad Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 They also seem to sell Linn, Dartzeel, Bakoon and Accuphase. Some extremely high end stuff to be on the same site as miniature jet engines for radio controlled planes.

kelossus Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 I am interested in speakers which are close to 40 years old so I wouldn't be expecting a warranty. Based on the pictures he has sent, the quote for shipping and the negotiated price it seems to be a very good deal. A little too good. All the prices are in USD also. He quoted 28 dollars to ship them to Brisbane, these things are huge!
Krispy Audio Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Not unless the local RRP is overblown in the first place. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Esoteric's RRP in Australia is better than the RRP in USA once converted. Not sure what pricing is Asia is. 1

Do tell us if you pull the trigger and how it goes though please!

teagle Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 platinumbird is a new member from Darwin, perhaps pm him & see if he can assist.
Hergest Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 My word there's some lovely stuff there at silly cheap money, too cheap for it to be kosher to my eyes but you never know. Worth a cheap flight to Darwin if you were serious about something.
kelossus Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 It is really close to the airport. I am actually considering this.
metal beat Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) Looks like a scam to me Dartzeel for $4,700 EMT 930 for $1500 brand new Micro Seiki SX8000 mk11 for $30,000 as they still make 2 units per year. total BS. Micro Seiki is out of business and closed their doors in 2001. Edited March 2, 2014 by turntable 1
kelossus Posted March 2, 2014 Author Posted March 2, 2014 $400 dollar round trip which is a bit much as the item isn't worth thousands. Requesting paypal as a payment method. Hopefully he accepts and I will go ahead with it.

Krispy Audio Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) Oh wow, now that makes HULK MAD! That's certainly my own personal photo of my cable, this is about to get real. I'll be reporting them to Scam Watch, a division of the ACCC. https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/content/index.phtml/tag/reportascam/ Edited March 2, 2014 by Krispy Audio 2
aasza Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Seriously though scammers must be so retarded, one of the amps on his site I didn't recognise the brand so I Google image searched the model and the FIRST result was the real listing on a Japanese auction site with the pictures that he's using.... It must require massive brainpower to be a scammer.... LOL
