dimo Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Greetings and salutations, Just wondering if anyone on here has successfully used an iPad (newer versions with lightning cable) to play 24/96. There are a few dock options for the old style 30pin iPads that either have an inbuilt DAC (TEAC DS-H01) or allows to bypass the internal iPad DAC (iD100 Digital Dock), but I can't find anything that works with a lightning adapter. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Jventer Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I have been wondering about this. Planning to try a lightning to 30 pin adaptor one or other time.
dimo Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 I have been wondering about this. Planning to try a lightning to 30 pin adaptor one or other time. I'm trying to avoid the use of an adapter. Had used one for a previous dock and it broke the dock. Tried to get a replacement and they would not honour it as "while it supports the adapter it's not designed with one in mind". That was only a $40 dock, don't want to risk it on something that will cost hundreds.

I dont like putting my ipad on the dock - I use an old model 30 pin with an extension cable with my dock. Thinking of getting a cable that could be used lightning one side and 30 pin on other. Hmm, perhaps a extension cable, one of the aforementioned docks and a nice ipad stand might be an elegant solution.
Damhooligan Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 iPad mini to bypass it's internal DAC. I'm not very well known with ipad items. but a camera connection kit, could function as usb interface. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC531ZM/A/apple-ipad-camera-connection-kit

Brendo09 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 dimo, how do you find the Aune T1? I'm loving mine, but off a Windows pc, so it fits pretty simply. I run it into a small Muse 2x20w amp at work. Hope your conversion iPad -> amp goes well!

Should be fun. Will plug it into a Rega Brio R and played through Ushers S520s. Edited February 28, 2014 by dimo
Brendo09 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 fun is the best way to view it. Enjoy yourself. Sorry I can't help with any of the iPad stuff, but I hope you get grinning before too long.
JCM Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) Hay, I have an ipad with lightning plug and was streaming to my DAC using camera connection kit and home sharing was working fine but then I updated soft ware to ISO7 and now I get hectic noise when I try and stream any thing above 24/48. You also can't sync hi res files through itunes to ipad like iPod says they are not supported by device, but I think I read some where you can get them on by drag and dropping a play list?? LogicprObe Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 A lot of those powered USB hubs have crap PSU's.
A J Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 A lot of those powered USB hubs have crap PSU's. Good point and very true. I've got my ones running off linear low noise supplies and it seems to work well.
