G'Day All,

I have been looking at these DACs for quite a long time, but what gives me pause before clicking the "Buy It" button is the apparent lack of service?

Can anyone who has had actual experience of Denafrips providing service on one of their DACs please comment on the quality of that service.

Please do not tell me they "never break".  Anything electronic can "break", go out of spec, whatever.

Regards,
Gary

Good, let's hope he chimes in.  I am just interested in the procedures surrounding service on out of warranty gear and perhaps an indicator of the sorts of costs for such service.

Morning Gary,

I bought a new Ares 2 from Dacman. I used it with a Pi2AES originally, but when I switched to using the usb after 6mnths, I realised the usb connection didn’t work.

Dacman paid for the return of the dac for testing, agreed the usb was faulty, returned it to Denafrips who also agreed, and I was sent a new one.

Although the process took 4 weeks, it didn’t cost me anything more. Also this was in 2022 when Denafrips seemed to be selling through Alvin.

Regards

Steve

If you buy from an Australian authorised dealer, you should be covered by Australian Consumer Law, this may be state based. Like anything in electronics, things can become faulty over time.

Grey importing is another matter altogether; the buyer takes the risk if anything goes wrong.

GDay All,

It is somewhat expected that the Aus rep would stand behind the product.  Paying return freight shows that he will stand by his customers too.  All good.

Has anyone had to have anything fixed out of warranty, and what was the experience?

This (out of warranty service) is going to happen, since a lot of Denafrips gear is bought and sold right here on Stereonet and I do not know that the warranty is transferable, and, if it is, it won't last forever.
