Hi

Need some advice/recommendations as to what power amp I need to look for with the following constraints

Budget - 1k ish AUD

Drive - wharfedale diamond 225

Irrelevant but other use would be another integrated amp to drive a center speaker, svs pb1000 and 2 rears

Also need recommendations on a dac

Thanks all

The Stereophile review of the 225s that I saw, suggests that, although they do go as low as 4 ohms for a small part of their frequ range ... they are not a difficult spkr to drive.

Which is great for you, as it suggests that many integrated / power amps of 50-80w power into 8 ohms, should be able to drive them well.

Have a look in the SNA Classifieds.

Re. a DAC - I think my Topping E30 is a very cost-effective performer ... although I have been told a Topping E90 'Velvet' sounds better (but is 3x the price!  ).

Sorry Andy - was that a typo cause i could only find (TOPPING D90 III Discrete Fully Balanced)? Regardless i think it's outside my price range

As for the power amp - any particular brand i should look out for? Rotel/NAD or alike ?

Topping E90 might be wrong - but E30 is what I own.

Look on the Addicted 2 Audio website.

Both of those; also Marantz ... and other commercial Japanese brands.

Are you sure you want a power amp - and not an *integrated* amp (power amp + preamp combined)? Do you already have a preamp?

Is the Velvet sound due to an AKM DAC chip.

very good point Andy but here's the setup

Yamaha rxv6a - drives C, SL, SR, two ceiling speakers + sub

use the preout to hook up to the power amp for the FL+FR

Rookie question here but how do i switch the front speakers between Home theater and Music modes?

TIA
