Mickeydamouse Posted Tuesday at 02:32 AM Posted Tuesday at 02:32 AM I bought a Wiim Ultra to use with Qobuz in to Geiseler Reinigen and Kompakt 2 I set it up correctly selected usb output did firmware update and waited for the magic to begin. It works on the Wiim app screen and the Ultra screen but no sound through speakers. I need help to isolate what the issue is so any help would be appreciated.
Steff Posted Tuesday at 02:47 AM Posted Tuesday at 02:47 AM (edited) Have you taken any steps yet? From simple to more involved: is there a volume setting at zero anywhere in your devices (digital or analogue)? have you rebooted the device? is there sound using any other output than USB? is there sound via headphone directly from the wiim? is there sound going direct from wiim to amp via RCA? have you started process of elimination (disconnecting the Reinigen and / or Kompakt)? Mickeydamouse Posted Tuesday at 02:57 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 02:57 AM Hi Steff,It’s wierd because some music plays but the radio stations play on the screen but no sound. It has to be a setting somewhere.I tried line out direct to preamp but had the same issue. My old MacBook works fine configured the same way. 1
Steff Posted Tuesday at 03:03 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:03 AM I read in the manual that there are two ways for volume control—which do you use? For the first method, I read online that the fixed volume output is NOT identical for all outputs. The some sound but not radio does suggest a setting somewhere... also (you have likely looked at this already): 1
Mickeydamouse Posted Tuesday at 04:14 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 04:14 AM Hi Steff, Thanks for those ideas. Its strange because some albums plays but the and can be heard. I’ll double check check the volume settings when I get home 1
Mickeydamouse Posted Tuesday at 06:02 AM Author Posted Tuesday at 06:02 AM Hi Steff, I changed the resolution to 24/96 from 24/192 and that seems to have fixed the issue.Once again thanks for your help 2
Steff Posted Tuesday at 06:09 AM Posted Tuesday at 06:09 AM Ok well done! It sounds like either the USB can't handle the 24/192 or one of the Gieseler devices? Would be interesting to isolate the cause. Perhaps @Gieseler Audio could help with a comment?

If it is the glorious-sounding TDA1541A version, it is limited to 24/96 as per Clay's website: Kompakt II DAC | gieseler Edited Tuesday at 07:40 AM by pete_mac 3
Gieseler Audio Posted Tuesday at 07:39 AM Posted Tuesday at 07:39 AM Thanks Pete - yes @Mickeydamouse has the TDA1541A Kompakt II so limited to 96K 2
Kirby66 Posted Tuesday at 08:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:27 PM Hi @Mickeydamouse, good to see you've found your answer ... I had a similar 'discovery' when I changed from a Gieseler M19D Fein II to a Kompakt II TDA1541A. It took me a few days to work it out but once I did I was able to re-download from Qobuz albums at 96k which I had previously downloaded at higher res. As I had previously downloaded them there was no charge - yay for Qobuz !! If you're streaming only this is of no matter, but if you are paying for and storing files on a HD as I do with favourite albums, I will often download the highest resolution file (sometimes a dollar or two more expensive) and then download a 96K version for free to use in my current set up - who knows what DAC I may be using in the future ... It would have to be something pretty bloody special to displace my Kompakt II 6
chaddy Posted Wednesday at 08:09 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:09 PM Using Roon it’s a simple matter of limiting sample rate to 96kHz in the Streamer setup menu. Also have a preset in Muse to turn of all DSP processing. 1
