joeling Posted March 6 Posted March 6 (edited) Decided to to fire up both of my D25S a month ago only to hear gear crunching noises. Searched online and saw YouTube video detailing the issues with these Sony Discmans when they age and how to repair them. It seems that the number 1 problme is the idler gear between the laser sled motor and the laser unit. They tend to turn green and soften. Ripped out the offending gear New spares from China Prior to installation New part installed Sony Discman D25S + Mass Kobo 385 (circa 2010's). Original battery is dead. Waiting for 3D printed battery Edited March 6 by joeling 7
David A Posted March 6 Posted March 6 (edited) I've got an old 90's Sony D-EJ825 cd walkman in mint condition. I'd say the battery would also be long-dead. But with a fresh aftermarket replacement, it should play as good as new, as it had very little use & spent the rest of the time in my cupboard. Ps: the pic below is a stock pic, as I couldn't be bothered pulling out my unit. My box is in much better condition than that one which looks like it got run over by the Southern Aurora, lol! Slimline all metal casework, nice DACs, proper quality. Edited March 7 by Steever 1
Drandy Posted March 27 Posted March 27 This brings back so much memories of my portable setup back in 2002! I had a discman running through a portal homemade amp (that I bough) and with the Etymotic ER-4S. 1
