surprisetech Posted February 21 Posted February 21 Thinking about the next TV purchase and considering getting a Commercial Display rather than a TV. Currently have a 55" Hisense Smart TV and we don't use the tuner or any of the so-called 'smart' features. Mostly, the only remote buttons that get used are power, source, volume and mute. Sources are Fetch Mighty & a BluRay Player, both via HDMI. I recently helped a friend set up two brand new LG TVs and had to create an account with LG as well as the streaming services and do a whole lot of other stuffing around just to stream free-to-air! (No antenna connection available) I love my old LG 37" TV in the man cave, but these new ones really put me off. I've seen 65" commercial 4k UHD displays from LG & Samsung with 2 or 3 HMDI inputs, 2 x 10W Speakers, a remote and a 3-year warranty. Everything I need and none of the extra stuff inside that just creates additional potential points of failure and obsolescence. I don't know if they would have a 'movie zoom' setting which I occasionally use to get rid of the letterbox when content is wider than 16:9, but I'm not too concerned about that. What else might I be sacrificing? Just curious to know if anyone has already gone in this direction or has considered it. 1
BugPowderDust Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I like your thinking. I bought the dumbest tv I could last time and replaced it with a projector last year. I don’t want a computer and apps in my display. others may suggest that there are some compromises in your approach, but all I hear is upside. 1
