dandavis Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Hi, I'm a new member, I have a 1979-82 era Rega planar 3 TT and it is having speed fluctuations. I have replaced the suspension belt, the pulley belt, put double sided tape on the motor so it won't move and still having the same issues. Is it the motor itself? Will a new capacitor fix this issue?
dandavis Posted February 14 Author Posted February 14 I would like to get feedback on certain aspects of my hi-fi set-ups. I have two, my main one is a Rega P3 (2019), Cambridge C 80X, Cambridge phono preamp and wharfedale Evo speakers. I have just acquired a Luxman SX505X, B&W DM2 speakers and a Yamaha CT 400 tuner, I am wanting to run my Rega planar 3 (1979) through this set-up but as I have mentioned, I'm having speed issues with it.
ganache Posted February 14 Posted February 14 Welcome to the forum Daniel! Hope you get pointers to help fix your speed issue. Nice system setups

I have done all the other things on that thread, except changing the motor for the 24 volt upgrade which is the expensive last resort option. But still an option. 2
dandavis Posted February 15 Author Posted February 15 So an update, I fixed it by replacing the capacitor. The capacitor is used is 0.22uF (220nF) @ 275Vac Metallized Paper X2 Capacitor. Regas are apparently renowned for the capacitors to go in them which makes the motor kinda want to turn backwards over time. So if anyone is having this issues with early 80s era Rega planar 3s, then try this! 2
