As I'm slowly upgrading my TT a number of posts and comments I have had from people is that the Rega wire is pretty crap. So I have a plan to do some mods to the arm which means it will be out and was thinking of rewiring it at the same time, So my question Copper or Silver, I listen to acoustic, jazz a lot of open space type music and female vocals,

Do not want to end up making it bright or shrill in anyway

Depends on the cartridge and your other gear, I had my RB250 rewired with copper, but my cart windings are silver wire.

I rewired my RB301 with 1877 Phono Litz (copper) and it made a good improvement more texture, air and detail. Ortofon Rondo MC cart. Overall I still found the arm and cart not a great match and the sound a bit forward for my liking, but that wasn't the rewire causing it, the rewire improved the situation and made things smoother.

How bad is the RB303 wiring compared with Litz ? I was under the impression it had already been upgraded. I run a Denon 301 mk2 or a 103 cart.

I'll be running a Benz Micro Ace SL, PS Audio Phono, Mystere ia21 into eventually either Hoyt-Bedfords or Omega speakers, I'm doing a plinth and the arm has to come out anyway so thought a rewire might be good idea at the same time

I rewired my R250 with Cardas cable (twisted) and it seemed to open up a lot more detail, even with the same cart

Rewireing can cause as many problems as it solves, if the wire is too stiff or thick it can cause binding and inhibit the movement of the arm. If you do rewire use 33awg multi strand with thin insulation. I used litz after having problems with single strand silver. Also you need to be carful not adjust the bearings. Replaceing the wire in my rb300 improved the sound, replacing the counter weight and stub was a better up grade. Replacing the bearings and removing the vtf adjuster also helped, but by the time you do all that you have to ask yourself if it would of just been better buying a better arm in the first place.

Who is to rewire the cart? You or an expert?

As Awty says it isnt always as simple as it appears
