2Brix Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) Well hopefully audio room furniture DIY modifications kind of belongs in the DIY Audio Projects sub-forum Anyhoo..back story being that 15 years ago i choose...i mean my better half decided...on a home theatre type lounge with a two seat return leg that barely fit the allocated space. So it's peeved me for ages, well like 15 years. I really wanted to remove one seat from the 2 seat return leg to free up some space. I got a few casual quotes from professional furniture makers that ranged from $1200-1500 (get f******) down to $700 (quite reasonable i thought). Anyway i hesitated for a while...like a year XD...and when i got back in touch with the reasonable quote he has actually left that industry. So i decided to avago myself, even though i have no trades background and my day usually involves driving a keyboard and mouse. How hard could it be right? I've hung a few pictures, a dryer, assembled flat pack furniture, mended a chest of drawers and the like. So here's part 1 of a few parts as they unfold in a pictorial and meandering manner. Hopefully it provides inspiration, mirth, pity, or has soporific value if you're otherwise suffering from insomnia. The return leg lets have a look, start removing the underside cloth feet off cut younger grandcat wants to help. OK, fine. I could use an apprentice anyway. some apprentice, methinks he wants to adopt this as a new cat tower....already has three Check the entitled 'side eye' attitude. Anyway, maybe he can look after the tools while i duck off to a meeting? 10 minutes (after the meeting).......da fuh...not keeping a eye on things after all ok, assigned one of the leading hands to keep an eye on the apprentice nope oh well, that was as far as i didnt get on the first session (today). Will post update tomorrow. Providing the SNA mods havenae taken this thread down Edited February 4 by 2Brix 3 4 3

2Brix Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 (edited) s'ok...firstly i wanted to thank everyone that has hung in here so far. And secondly, in response to a truly astounding number of PMs received in the past 24hrs providing (mostly) constructive suggestions, the general consensus / 'reading the room' seemed to be a wish for more action (some real progress and or gladiator style gore) and more on topic (less cats...sorry John @Type 1). So without further ado S1:E2 'Rough cut' line marked all way round. Now, 3 deep breaths... dayumm bro...sh** just got real this cant't be happening / no turning back now... cueing up some worksite toons getting in the zone now resecuring webbing. Initially i used some upholstery tacks (from Big B...) but they were somewhat recalcitrant tending to fold over even into the chipboard. And even the good'ens weren't very well anchored. So pilot holes and 12G screws to the rescue! take that! feeling concerned about how the 'through beams' (blue circled) might be after the far side is cut away. And also concerned about the centre support / bump stop foam and plakky bit (pointed at with screwdriver) squirrelled around in my 'steptoe' box of miscellaneous fittings and brackets. No idea what these originally were meant for but thankfully i hadnae thrown them out (even during a worldwide pandemic garage cleanup). Just perfect size. Secured with some bolts, washers and nuts leftover quantities from when i re-affixed a kitchen cupboard door that had been knocked off by one of my teenrages XD donor wood for the bump stop support donor wood installed, so that the bump stop sits on 40mm wide (2 x 20mm) which will be more secure when the far side is cur away and discarded Well that brings Episode 2 to a close. Hope that was somewhat more satisfactory. Remember to Like, and subscribe by the link below. (Nah, make you look tho') Edited February 5 by 2Brix 5

2Brix Posted February 6 Author Posted February 6 (edited) Although it's 'light on' in the cats department, here it is anyway...S1:E3 This time i'm uploading smaller photo sizes which should be more screen/scroll friendly. Sorry about the stupidly big images in E1 and E2. Where was i? Oh yeah, trimming away the unwanted side of the bump stop improvised task lighting and securing the bump stop plastic thing as the staples pulled out when i tried to remove a wonky one nice n secure now securing the webbing to what was the 'mid frame' because the webbing no longer runs to the far end of the couch rough cut marked out to remove the unwanted length coulda used a jig saw but i prefer hand saws when possible parting ways stub ends to be trimmed off when work resumes tomorrow interim inspection by the Leading Hand who says he's done his time on the tools, and now wants to move onto Quality looks alright at the back hey....where'd he go. Wait, what.....nooo. No nesting! til tomorrow then Cheers Thiccus Edited February 6 by 2Brix 7 1

And no cats to be seen Excess bits trimmed off getting ready to transfer the 'hooks' from the old end of the couch to the new end of the couch showing the 100% perfect spade cut hole....and hiding the other one that was a shocker (super wonky...wtf) Wont fixe then in possie yet, will wait until couch goes back to location and make sure these align well with the other part of the lounge teaser for E5...where i will need to salvage the footer board and secure to the new end of the couch thanks for tuning in TBC Chur 2B Edited Friday at 01:08 PM by 2Brix 2 1

2Brix Posted Saturday at 01:06 PM Author Posted Saturday at 01:06 PM (edited) OK...what a loooong day today. This it Season 1 finale, and a double-banger Episode 5 S1:5A Morning Cos it was (is) Saturday i was super motivated to finish this project TODAY and take the day off tomorrow. So i asked the Apprentice to come in and make an early start. However, he was a no show. Found him sleeping, says not feeling well. 'Have you been out all night again? i enquired. 'No boss, feeling crook in the guts. Must be something i ate' he replies. Fine! Looks like i'm in a for a long day. Start salvaging the footer board from what was the old end of the couch. Let's tae this ootside Jimmie back inside, what's going on then? I thought you were crook / taking the day off? guilty af realised i had only installed a support bracket on one side (tick) and not the other (cross) decided to use some salvaged wood. Used temporary packing (circled) to force the support piece against the cross beams supports also installed for the footer board test fit / clash check for the salvaged footer board pre-drills footer board fitted! phew, late lunch break. Spicey mex which i 'meal prepped' yesterday. elder cat (not quite 2 yo) looking somewhat despondent. Says he feels bad about not setting a good example earlier when mucking around with the apprentice instead of helping out aww, that's OK. And i'm sorry i ragged you out in front of everyone. to be cont'd..... Edited Saturday at 01:17 PM by 2Brix 1 1
2Brix Posted Saturday at 01:23 PM Author Posted Saturday at 01:23 PM (edited) S1:E5 Arvo-evening sesh Trimming the excess underside cloth start tacking where factory staples had been removed for access laying out salvaged cloth/hide. Having watched 'Silence of the Lambs' and the 'Dress Maker' i felt like i was well trained for this hmm actually looking pretty good, even if i say so meself RH helping me bring it home upholstery tacks not up to holding down a few double over layers. Moved on to pre-drills and wood screws stuffed a couple layers salvaged foam, still easy to compress but this section should hide any gap when fitted back to the rest of the lounge likewise stuffed some salvaged foam, doubled over (circled) to make a slightly puffy finish done cleaned, ready to go back! in situ! This is zactly what i wanted. Couch not crowding too close to the front of the room, and more room to hoard oops,...store rekkids. Well that's all folks. Went a bit overboard on the photos hope y'all didnt get get dizzy scrolling all the way through. Cheers 2B Edited Saturday at 01:45 PM by 2Brix rogue photo removed on 2nd attempt XD 12

audiofeline Posted Monday at 06:25 AM Posted Monday at 06:25 AM Nice job, it's amazing what you can do yourself when you are willing to give it a go. Of course, you had two great workers. Will be good to see their final inspections. 1
