Se7en on 4k uhd blu-ray, 30th anniversary restoration

Se7en on 4k uhd blu-ray, 30th anniversary restoration Turned up,

I had to get this given the unbelievable movie it is… with one of largest gut wrenching hooks with no come back in movie history ! Amazing performances from Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey. Such a feel to this movie and David fincher is interviewed below in the year long effort gone into its remastering from an 8k scan ! To highest resolution archive !

“The reason it took a year [to restore “Seven”] is we are ostensibly from our 8K scan remaking the negative for this movie. This will be the highest resolution archival master of this movie from this point on.”

it comes up beautifully on 4k uhd blu-ray ! It’s a stunning bit of work… audio wise is also an absolute standout ! From how used for atmosphere to strident gun shots to low bass !

some screen shots watching on our 4k jvc video projector … so can see how comes up …

Se7en is an insanely good looking film in 4K.

I still own the Criterion Laserdisc, the DVD and the Blu-Ray releases.

One of my absolute fave films.....can't wait for Fight Club!

Link to my story watching it at @Benje 's incredible Home Theater below.

Also, a link to the many little changes the Director, David Fincher made below.

LOVE Fincher stuff bb. Zodiac has already been out on 4K for sometime. It was filmed in 1080p all those years ago - and looked great on BluRay. I read that the 4K release is a bit better due to use of HDR. Fincher was not consulted for the 4K release. Fincher's BRILLIANT Panic Room and The Social Network will be released in 4K next month. Fincher was involved with their transfers. He is working on the 4K release of Fight Club at the moment...(LOVE that film!).

Zodiac is BRILLIANT.

You MUST get Social Network as well. Coming out in 4K. I also have the Academy Award winning sountrack by Trent Reznor (from Nine Inch Nails) and Atticus Ross on vinyl (original release and the re-release) as well as on Blu Ray Audio. All sound superb.

Well, we shouldn't be talking about Fight Club (1st Rule!)......a masterpiece.

Just picked up this version of Se7en this week on sale from Amazon. However, during watching it last night at 00:27:45 until 00:29.40 (when Somerset is in the Library), the screen completely glitched, the sound dropped out, and it also froze. Never had this issue before - This is pretty frustrating on a brand-new disc.

I have read of folk having some similar issues with this disc, especially the fold-out book version, which is the one I have.

Playing through a Panasonic UB820 - which I've also heard some folk have glitching issues with on 4ks, so I hope my problems aren't just beginning. Has been a perfectly fine player until now.

BTW - other than the momentary glitches, the movie looked fantastic, definitely helped by the HDR/Dolby Vision treatment on such a dark film. Surround audio could have been better, but pretty reasonable.

what a shame, sorry to hear !

Amazon are good with returns if indeed the disc and want to return …. You can try washing the disc … kid you not some have a smoky film that doesn’t help. It might be disc issue … does this disc have hdr10+ this I have found can cause issue and best to turn that off this is only ever issue have had with Panasonic u 9000. If The Panasonic has the switch for 4k 50/60 turned on … I’d turn off that too. Very few discs with 4k 50/60

only other things is cables … are you using an active cable ie is directional hdmi ? These have a chip in them and these can play up. Is your cable certified with qr code. If not get one. Ruipro make solid copper passive cables without chips that are certified … with qr code can buy from ezyhd.

or a mono price certified from amazon

Thanks Betty! Great suggestions. I was nervous about cleaning it if I'm thinking of returning it. Yeah I heard about the 'off-gassing' some had said leaves a film on discs, but this disc is inside a slip-sleeve of the case (though I worry this can cause rubbing over time). It is strange that it glitches in exactly the same spot each time I insert it. I'll check those settings on the Panasonic - it certainly has had no troubles until now (4 years old). Using high-grade Blu-Stream HDMI cables throughout the chain. I think I'll pop over to a friend's place and test it on their player and see if it glitches in the same spot.

I couldn't buy a cake in a box for atleast a year after watching that movie 🫣
