wavemechanic Posted January 18 Posted January 18 (edited) Looking for a reliable and competent tech who thoroughly understands valve amplifiers, I have a pair of AM 833s one of which has an intermittent fault. Who do you recommend? Edit: I'm Melbourne-adjacent. Edited January 19 by wavemechanic
Bronal Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I suggest you contact Greg Osborn at Osborn Loudspeakers. They are the distributors for AM in Australia and will probably have a recommended repair agent.

I have contacted Greg, he has supplied me with the details of his repair guy - Filatronics in Oak Park. Thanks for the tip, much appreciated.

Any one have other recommendations?

It isn't a good look for him to be referring people to a business that won't do the work, as it affects his reputation. 1
John N Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Hard to find a good tech these days one that not interested in doing anything other than replacing say a module it seems. Gary Causey In Brunswick or Dallas Clarke in Glen Waverley if he answer's his phone and there is a place in Clifton Hill that sells used equipment, Hi FI Exchange I think, They maybe able to help or recommend someone. It really surprises me how a forum like this with all its members doesn't seem to be able to help with these types of requests for help. Had this problem myself in the past, very little help to be had. Good Luck. 2
John N Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Whoops, Forgot to mention Mark from Sonic Art I would give him a call first. He may be able to help. 1

It's not really Greg's fault, although it should give pause to anyone considering a purchase of gear that has no support infrastructure in place. I have made contact with Mr. Fang who builds the amps, he sent me a hand-drawn schematic within an hour and provided other troubleshooting help. Extraordinary gentleman, extraordinary amplifiers. 2

Not sure which side of Melbourne you live, but if you are struggling to find someone to fix your valve amp I can give you the contact details of the guy who has been doing my range of valve amps- trouble shooting and repairs. Know his stuff. He is located in eastern suburbs. PM me.
