Keith_W Posted January 7 Posted January 7 The last time I chatted to them, I suggested they lean more heavily into the advantage of linear phase since they are the ONLY linear phase DSP solution on the market. That is, if you exclude all the DIY options involving PC's. EVERY speaker ever made with a passive crossover, and nearly all speakers with DSP, are minimum phase. All minimum phase systems introduce time distortion, it is simply the nature of the beast. Linear phase systems not only introduce no time distortion of their own, but it can also correct for time distortion produced by minimum phase systems. The disadvantage of linear phase is pre-ringing and latency. The maths behind pre-ringing is well understood and can be compensated for, so it is less of an issue unless one is ham-fisted. But latency is unavoidable - until Kim Ryrie told me that they have a patent on zero latency and invited me to look it up. I found the patent here and was quite excited to see that it had expired, meaning that anybody can use it but unfortunately the patent details go a bit over my head. 1 Quote
