The larger than life country music legend ,has moved on at the age of 91

love or hate him ,he was the last of the pioneers of country music here in australia

he first appeared on the terry dear radio show ,armature hour

where he sang the sheik of scrubby creek! His own composition .

EMI offered a record contract ,

thus the legend was born!
there are hundreds of stories of chads antics ,

and from someone who knows, most are 100% true events ,

fact is stranger than fiction ,specially when talking about chad !
he only retired mid 2024 ,from live performances ,

over 70 years,of shows, touring all over Australia ,

as all the pioneers of country music did ,

he now joins the immortals

buddy williams

tex morton

slim dusty

smokey Dawson

reg Lindsay

along with the great women of country

sister dorrie

rita Schneider

shirly Thoms,

the mckean sisters ,

just to name a few !

even a short stint in the RAAF could not tame our chad!
RIP

chad please  🙂

Terry Dear brings back memories. He had a quiz show on TV in the 60s called Concentration.

Anyway, back to Chad. R.I.P

This is a fine doco on and a tribute to Chad, title is from when he heard a radio announcement that he had died.
Sad it has occurred.

And a relatively recent performance -  "Old Dog", East Brisbane, QLD - 31/10/21.

He's a performer who hasn't changed a bit since his the first 78's he recorded for Regal Zonophone.

In the first few minutes Chad talks about Brisbane City Council's plan to demolish the East Brisbane Bowls Club.
