audiofeline Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 The Black Patti peacock, later appropriated by Yazoo. Also noticing the scroll design, not sure which came first, the Black Patti scroll or the Victor Scroll. 3 2
SONDEKNZ Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Despite some chronic commercial over-play and overexposure, it was always a cool record label... 3 1

Volunteer El Tel Posted January 6 Volunteer Posted January 6 I'm picking my favourites from my collection, but using Discogs stock photos as I am too lazy to pull mine out I'm not sure I would consider the classic Atlantic label as pretty, but I do find it incredibly evocative. It was the label of so many of my favourite artists including Aretha and Led Zeppelin and Crosby, Stills et al. I find a lot of the older Brunswick and Astor pressing physical labels evoke a similar feeling inside me when I pull them from the sleeve despite being little more than functional. Out of all the "old school" labels in my collection, my Reaction 1967 second UK press of Cream's Disraeli Gears is probably my favourite of all those one might consider as not actually pretty, but meaningful on a personal level. It's a simple logo and it just speaks of a time when marketing and branding was immature and essentially the contents of the grooves was all that mattered. I think my formative years of music appreciation influence my opinion of what I find pretty. I guess my love is more than skin-deep on these things and my emotional connections have more importance to me than the eye-candy. Having said that, and not wishing to divert OP's intent, I do have a couple of pretty labels in my collection. Australia 1978 10cc Bloody Tourists on Mercury: Japan 1981 Kim Wilde eponymous on RAK: Kudos to @aussievintage for a great thread. 4 1

That one is in reasonable playable condition only. Still sounds great. It also is missing it's cover. But still I was real glad to find it. Bought it right away. 1 1

Great piece of music...and depending upon my mood and how I am feeling...some days it would make it in my top ten pop songs of all time...then other days...struggle for interest...

I think Time is Tight is as good or better, but yeah it's good.
SONDEKNZ Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I am totally enjoying this thread, but this topic really does invite failure... The problem is: The more we enjoy the music - and the harder it is to find a decent pressing - the more beautiful that otherwise plain little round labels looks... to the owner! Guilty, as charged!
