I expected that there would already be a section for this very popular mc

well after dabbling with FRs I’m back listening to my old 103 r . I’m amazed at how good it’s sounding!

I was about to sell it, but maybe I’ll keep it. I turns out that it’s the only MC of mine to fit on my Pioneer Pl 70 , at least until I find my Dynavector karat.

I have one too, works well mounted on a GST-1 fitted to a stiffened PD264.

However there is always a but, my AT33 is just a lot more of a match with the DV phono stage

Count me a big DENON DL-103R fanboy too!

Works REAL well on our (fully loaded) DESIGN BUILD LISTEN Wand Plus 9.5" tonearm.

My wife's younger ears  actually prefer the DL-103R to our more costly and sumptuous SHELTER 501/2. (Steady on, dear... 😂 ) But I do understand why: The 103R has a big-boned approach to all play-back that just seems to cut to the heart of the music.

Also a big advantage with the DL-103R is the conical stylus, in that it is spectacularly unfussy about alignment. I guess the stylus tip meets the groove with the same circular edge, regardless how you align it, so that suits those who aren't predisposed to fettling.

Make no mistake though, the DL-103R is super-fussy about tonearm mass, and will richly reward heavier tonearms.

(Still loving the DENON DL-110 on our fully unloaded DESIGN BUILD LISTEN Wand Plus 9.5" tonearm too! 😊 )

I love the sound of DENON cartridges... 💌

Just my 10-cents worth.

I get it.  I think the same thing about the truly humble AT3600 cart.  You definitely miss out on the high end clarity that a better stylus shape can bring though.  I have read posts from DL-103 owners that say that it is the same.
