Just ordered one of these portable/small format CD Spinners with digital outputs, basic model no BT. ! It appears in Australia we can only get the black one ?

Seems fairly new, released in 2024. Mine will sit on top of a miniDSP Flex8/DAC, for quite the tiny feature packed front end.

Has anyone else had any experience with these ?

To add,,,

Seems as though I can connect an I Pod, Digital out, via USB,,,,for music streaming, straight into the USB digital input of the miniDSP, mmm, that would be good.

When the CD player turns up, I'll see if it all works and report.

BT connection, is OK, however this set up will be all wired, digital out to a single DAC, in this case 8 DAC channels for 4 way speaker management.

🙂

Now for a compact 8 channel power amp,,,,,

I've used one of these before and found they are ok. I'll need 2.

And to power them, 2 of these,,,

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/256636852371?var=556920690469

one for each 4 channel power amp.

I guess this thread could be in DIY audio ?

Dunno, but I have a good feeling about it (from experience with these components before) , working really well and have appreciable WAF factor, done properly (amazingly compact), for not a lot of work and or money. A little fabrication to build the power amp array, plug and play from there.

Cheers.

I was interested in one of these when they were first announced mid-year but the Aus release date just kept getting pushed further back so I decided to go with a used regular cdp instead.

I recall though that at the time we were supposed to get other colours sometime after the original black  version.

Hi, yes the black one is available through Amazon ATM, not the coloured version, or the clear top lid is available for shipping.

Not keen on the BT ( Ive' read some reviews the BT is hard to connect to)  this one will be hard wired, SPDIF....

Should be fun.

I like the look of the clear top one especially.  Very nice.

Also, look what Amazon's search algos offered up instead

Good morning, yes, saw those but for whatever reason the Fiio was cheaper in the basic not BT model. (I might be wrong) The milled aluminum case is kind of cool for me as I've never owned a "milled case audio" device, with metal buttons. Getting excited as you might tell.

Ordered both the 4 ch power amps yesterday. Only need 10w pc of clean output.

It's a system for the Mrs. She wants to plug in her Ipod and play CD's.

Speakers,,,,That's going to be a tough job, although She likes the look of the Azura Horns I've been getting ready to test (I may order a pair AH 340), have to be lipstick red though. 🙂

Not all bad,,,,,,red horn on a carbon fiber, curved sided enclosure might be nice, matching pair of remote subs. These days decorative carbon laminating is not expensive and almost  easy in comparison to a durable  gloss paint job or some grain matched veneer.

Hi Dazz

The player came in a couple of days ago and had time to run it today.

Connected the Fiio via Spdif into the miniDSP Flex8, same as the Oppo.

The Mrs likes the Fiio more than the Oppo, her reaction was fairly well immediate. "The oppo is a little more clinical/brighter but the Fiio, has slightly better stereo separation and appears to present a fuller and more entertaining stereo sound plane, the Fiio seems easier to listen to but retain all the dynamics one expects". Reference, Queen, a kind of magic album.

Concluding the Fiio for its tiny size is excellent value, that and can play with machines worth 10 times as much,,,,,,,surprisingly.

Personally, well yea, I have to agree. It's a nice little gadget, easy to operate and navigate the digital or analogue outputs. Impressed...

Thanks for that mate...sounds very encouraging indeed.

Hi Darran

The Fiio has been in service for a few days and over the long weekend played a fair amount and did not miss a beat. The on board battery lasted 2 days, another surprise.

Yes the little portable is a reasonable thing, plugged in via the spdif output. I have not tried the DAC built in as yet so can not comment on that aspect of the spinner, or external power supply,,,

Yep, it's just a little more relaxed and easier to listen to for whatever reason, comments above still stand (image ability). Surprised as I was bias toward the Oppo being superior in every way.

Pity it did not come with a remote control ! Happy for it to head up a complete new (compact) system with a fair amount of confidence.

Cheers Matt
